If PLD was traded tomorrow, he would be a Habs on a 1 year contrat going to be RFA, which means the Habs could sign him to their likings, up to the max of 8 years.

I trust Hugues (The Agent) to manage contracts carefully.

You loose control if you trade for him with the intentions of extending him later. Do you really want to try what the Jets tried? Hope he extends or plays nice on the extension.

No way I trade for Dubois without an extension in place. I'm a fan of Dubois but he's not getting leverage over the Habs.

Is there anything from HuGo’s handling of contracts so far, that leads anyone to believe they would be lax about this sort of thing? With over 30 years experience as an NHL agent, seems to me that Hughes tends to cover his bases.

Hughes is not coughing up good value for Dubois without ensuring a long term deal.

21 year olds aren't reclamation projects. Dach's a young kid still under development. He's the same age as Caufield. Development is never fluid and there will be ups and downs. Very tall players often take longer.

It’s not trending well for him but then again it depends on what you think his ceiling is?
I do think he will be as good as Dubois and get 60 pts
I do believe he can’t be a 3rd line centre and get 35-40 pts which is far from busting but it’s definitely not what you expect from a 3 OA

But. At the same time, you look at former 3OA picks and you scratch your head a bit: Drouin, Galchy, KK. Dach has the tools but can he use them properly? It's a dead horse talking about the moves continuously since they were made but I still have some concerns regarding Dach, especially looking at Drouin and his wrists problems

he was actually a beast in the bubble its very possible that the wrist injury slowed him down

Dach's numbers and stats are concerning but not definitive. He's still young and I trust HuGo and his advisers to see something in Dach most of us hasn't seen. Let's wait and see. Worst case, he did cost Romanov when Habs have many D promising to replace Roma. The Dach trade was a lateral move. In worst case, Dach will be a tradable asset and Habs will have other options at center. Like developp a center or acquire a center by trade or ufa signing.

But why some posters are obsessed calling x or y player a bust? They feel better writing this or what?

Dubois is not a loser. We are not going to gut our franchise to trade for him either. The context you are providing has many flaws in it.

No Habs fan or Hughes is going as deep in a trade like you are presenting so not sure where that is coming from.

I know we are not. That’s why he isn’t here yet and we have a good GM.

Yep. He had 33 pts in 82 regular season games and 6 pts in 9 playoffs games before he get to 20 yo. That's pretty good if you ask me.

The only ??? is his long term response to his wrist injury. he already has his rebound year where he was bad, but just like the rest of the team.

At this point, the only thing that can be done is giving him time and the Habs are in a perfect situation to just do that.

Evans is just not some 4th liner. He's developed well and is on a solid track to be a very good 3C. Dach has a higher ceiling yes and I'm assuming MSL gives him more ice time over Evans but we are likely looking at 15 min vs 18 min a game difference to start the season and we go from there.

Evans won't play PP but he will play PK. Dach likely is not playing PK but will get PP time.

Evans is a 4th liner. There’s not much more there than that.

I would agree if he wasn’t a 3oa pick with a pretty bad injury history

Again who cares where he was picked years ago?
How can he play now and is it value for his eventual contract and the price given up ( A 5/6 D ) That's what counts in the present.
