I see it playing out real slow. Its a little scary actually. They don't seem to have the balls to make moves when they should and wait and wait.

I use the Trouba trade as an example. They waited too long the return was medicore at best. A number 4 or 5 dman and a AHL dman.

Kane is another example. They should have moved him after his 40 goal season. Not wait and wait.

Logic dictates that moving players earlier has more value .

This team needs to be in constant transition from players that need to be moved fir whatever reason.
I must have missed that 40 goal season.

There ya go. I forgot we wasted 2 2nds on Dillon.

I take issue with this idea we are a draft and develop team when we trade picks away. Like Dillon.
we were draft and develop until we were ready to compete, just like we had an internal cap until we were ready to compete and since we can't attract free agents to fill spots we needed to do it with trades

i think it's a bit tough for troubas case. he was a v strong dman for us and 1/2 of our young top pair. those are hard to come by. we just made the WCF and had almost the same roster going into 18-19. we had notable injuries that year, and he held down the top-pair with Nate Beaulieu down the stretch at a pretty solid level - considering what we saw subsequent years out of of beaulieu-morrissey.

also, i believe the Jets tried finding ways to make it work for his wife's education at the time but given it was just to much of a process being a non-Canadian it was simpler to do it in the US

in his case, i can see why they tried to make it work, why they held on and exhausted options to make it work. given the team performance at the time: why they wanted to keep him and try to compete for a Cup.

for Kane - no disagreement. it should have been done earlier, way before the tracksuit.

Trade Trouba? ahh yes the old HF fan of the eternal rebuild. Don’t worry about making the conference finals just keep trading away good player because they might leave one day. I’m sure putting up 50 points didn’t help his value AT ALL.

We maybe get another B asset added in if we traded him a couple of years early. But as is we got likely close to market value as is. A roster player and a 1st isn't far off what you expect to get.

No seconds either. We can't sign FAs we need all the prospects we can get.

I don't mind bottom 6 type moves.

You're correct it was 30. Still waited too long.
You don't know the offers chevy had on the table for Kane prior to the big trade with Buffalo. This mindset reeks of the "chevy needed to do SOMETHING" attitude that was prevalent around here during the summer.

Sometimes no move is the best move

Who's talking about a constant rebuild. Can you imagine Chevy having to deal with 80 55 37 if they all want out ? That's a complete blow it up scenario.

If this franchise lets guys walk to UFA and trading them at the deadline for middling players we are in big trouble. Those picks are all late picks.

They need to indetify who they can't sign and move them at the highest value.

our 2nd rd picks are pretty weak and really haven't amounted to much. 10 selections our ppg is 0.18 across 346 gp (sans Comrie). No real stud dmen or goalies either. if we are a PO bound team, and playing strong hockey id move a 2nd (remember itll be late) for help now..... our 2nd rd picks not only don't amount to much, but also usually take 5+ years from their draft to actually do anything (if they do at all).

Well after this season you have 55 and 37. That are a year from UFA. You can't let them go past that without a contract. If they go into next season unsigned you could lose them for nothing.

They have to be signed or moved.
and they will be... were not going to lose those guys for nothing so I really don't understand why you would bring up that hypothetical like it's a possibility

I just think since we can't sign even fricken 3rd line plugs in UFA season we need hoard picks hope for luck and some bottom of the lineup guys.

Because they have a history of waiting too long and that they can convince everyone to stay it seems.

we can't attract talent in ufa to replace guys so of course we are going to try as hard as we can to convince our talent to stay, if you honestly think we should have traded trouba after our best season in franchise history when we reached the conference finals then I really don't know what to tell you

How'd that work out ?

Not saying we shouldn't try to convince people but when its time to cut them loose you have to maximize value.

again, we just had the best season in franchise history... we don't know how much more was even being offered, trouba was also an rfa with arb rights and pretty sure he was only willing to extend long term in new york so how many teams were going to give up max value for 1-2 years of trouba?

if you want to trade one of your best players with 3 years (or more) still left of control and his best season yet to come with the Jets you are completely ignoring the contending team you have for the future team. Just because he is going to move on eventually. It’s plan to be constantly rebuilding and never have the best team you can.

Sometimes you need to keep as much as you can and go for it.

I think we do know the offer the Jets had for Kane. The one we took and I think it was a pretty good offer.

I don’t believe the Sabres saw the track suit circus and then decided to up their offer. That just doesn’t seem logical.

Who of those 3 has 3 years of control ? None, in a few short months they will have 12 months control.

Go for what ? You have to be a real contender not a 1 season wonder to really go for it. They've never been a real contender. Now had they backed up that season with another then I might have been tempted.

think youre overestimating how the same team can be a consistent cup contender year in year out. od there's what 4-5 teams labelled as cup contenders in a given season? id say TBL is usually a consistent one, then it varies every years to year. teams often do not repeat 110-120+ pt seasons in consecutive years so i think if you have a v good team in the moment i lean towards a bit toward going for it. obviously various factors come into play, strength of prospect pool, strength of team vs competition, business POV etc. but we see how seldom the Jets have iced an elite team i dont blame them for moving a 1st+ in 17-18.

You were talking about Trouba.

1st place in the Central, time to blow it up boys! We need more prospects so we can be in a constant rebuild.

I wanted Trouba moved 2 seasons from UFA. We allowed ourselves to get painted into a corner by not moving him earlier when teams would have 2 years of control.

We are about to do the same with PLD.

I really doubt Trouba lost value while proving he’s a legit point producer and power play weapon.

Trade PLD for that eternal rebuild you’re hoping for.

what do you see a PLD trade looking like today Vs, end of the year Vs rental at next year’s trade deadline?

I'm fairly certain that had Chevy's ask for an equivalent dmen been met Trouba would have been dealt two years before he became a UFA. Since it wasn't he elected to defer the future package that was likely on the table for a year to try to win with a team that many thought was a Stanley Cup contending team in 2019.

Which teams trade their best players the years they intend to go for the cup because they plan on walking in a couple of years? No team does this unless forced to due to the cap or they get a real upgrade at a different/same position. Your stance on Trouba isn't really reasonable given where the team was at in its window.

Things are not as black and white as you are suggesting. If the Jets are 50 wins and 15 losses at the trade deadline, what do you do with PLD if you are Chevy?

I’m all for managing assets well, but sometimes you make an educated and calculated risk. Just as Chevy did with Trouba.
