I'm willing to give Sutter the benefit of the doubt.

I also believe this is independent of Lombardi's quest for another defenseman. This is just a minor tweak to the #7/8, doesn't change the need for a #3-4 and Dean's aware of that.

Does getting Scuds back help us go after someone else this deadline cap wise? There has to be more to this. This can't just be a change of scenery trade.

only thing I can think of is that chicago will retain but LA will now have to put gaborik on LTIR from IR..so maybe this was needed in order to get the cap relief of gaborik? I don't know..I am really searching for a reason why this makes sense

Making sense of the trade... you're going to take a flyer on Schultz(EDM) for a 3rd round pick... probably 70/30 it doesn't work out and you waste a pick.... For similar odds you can pick up Scuderi for nothing (Ehrhoff).
