what the hell is going?? taking on more salary on a fringe player, when we're life and death to sign players we already have?

I read that CHI can't retain any of Scuderi's salary as PIT already is and no more than one team can retain. Is that true?

Yes, 50% is max retention which Pit already has.

I don't really see the issue here, Ehrhoff's not seeing another game in a King's uniform either way. Scuds stays in shape (and out of the line-up) for the rest of the season while contributing to a successful locker room, and if someone goes down in the playoff's you put him in i.e. Schultz circa 2014. I don't imagine Lombardi makes this deal without the idea that Scuds isn't on the books for next season. Seems pretty cut and dry to me.

Obviously, with Scuderi owed another year on his contract, the likely salary retention is on the CHI side.

Expecting CHI to retain a significantly higher degree of Scuderi's salary than LA retains of Ehrhoff's. A bit complex.

I think he is going to retire, dude is completely finished as an NHL player.

I really don't like where any of this is going though.

Could see a scenario where he still gets paid a la Stephane Robidas, but that still hurts their cap.

I love this move. Scuderi was money for us before he left. Albeit that was 2 and a half years ago. Why are you guys doubting Deano? Remember what philly fans were saying when we traded for Vinny and Schenn?

doesn't matter even if he does retire or whatever after this year, Scuderi makes more than Ehrhoff and that cuts into our cap space for a rental THIS season. not to mention directly helping the biggest obstacle in the way to another cup.

Ehrhoff/Scuderi is a wash in terms of on ice play as far as I'm concerned, it's the cap ramifications that worry me.

Dean has a plan, he's been doing stuff like this for a long time now. I think it's fair to just accept it and wait to see what goes on in the summer.

Scuds only has to take one boarding penalty against the Isles who now are sporting Steve Bernier for the sweep of the MetroTriState area Stanley Cup trifecta.

Scuderi was not $$ two years ago. At the time he was a little better than Greene.

Have you watched him last year or this? He has been a dumpster fire. rather have Jeff Schultz called up at this point

For real, if we wanted a guy like Scuds we could just call up our Schultz. Scuds is way more finished than Lecavalier as well. I'll reserve judgement until we see the final deal.

kinda wonder why Jeff Schultz has never been an option again in the eyes of management, I thought that he was a real unsung hero stepping up during the Ducks series in 2014, great 3rd pairing stopgap. Not sure why they keep throwing out guys like Ehrhoff and McNabb but Schultz doesn't get another shot.

What I remember was that Scuderi was slow, not physical, didn't tie his man up in front of the net, and would fan trying to clear pucks that would end up in the net. Never really cared because he left for PIT. Do not need/want... isn't Schultz in the minors and not signed for next year?

Ehrhoff doesn't help chicago, he's just a contract going the other way for numbers reasons. If they decide to play him....then he certainly doesn't help Chicago.

We've got more than enough cap space to make whatever moves we need for this season. This is a textbook Dean Lombardi depth move.

Yeah, if CHI planned on PLAYING Ehrhoff, I can't wait to repeatedly dump the puck into his corner and sic Looch on him.
