one more depth forward would have been fine...I mean Chevy added two top 9 forwards to a team low on forward depth. What did people actually want him to do remake the whole team?

If you spend $10 K on playoff tickets we will have had a very nice run.honestly, i don't even know if I care. don't want to spend $10k on playoff tickets if chevy doesn't believe it's worth the effort.
*i believe i am distraught
not a single 1st rounder moved today right?
not sure what folks were expecting..... when healthy namestnikov helps the bottom-6. if perfetti comes back we have nino now so that'll push a 2nd line caliber player down.
the D group this TDL was Chychrun, Ekholm and whole lotta meh/whore cares. they were never going to move Pionk or Schmidt.
Yes, and it will be a lot more lengthy and painful then people realize. Ottawa is probably a best-case scenario and they will be going on 6 years without a playoff team. They had 5 awful years before this one. Expect something like that for the Jets. This off season is going to be must watch tv if the Jets miss the playoffs, I've said before miss the playoffs and it's time for a rebuild. That rebuild should be done by another GM with a fresh set of eyes that will come here and evaluate the roster and make some tough decisions.
Current odds are -300 to make playoffs....+230 to miss playoffsSo... what's the over/under at even making the playoffs?
If we end up rebuilding we will need a contract like Pionk to make the salary floor.Do we have to wait for the Pionk & Schmidt contracts to expire before we can even begin to build a decent D corps?
i agree, namestnikov isn't someone to get super excited about. at the minimum like you said he's better than waiver wire guys. & we accumulated a bunch of cap space and seemingly did nothing with it.I set my expectations pretty low and they weren't even met, we needed some scoring for the bottom six, yes namestinikov is better then what we had but he still doesn't bring enough offense
Sure. I’m not an advocate of buying for the sake of buying and sacrificing the future. My comment has more to do with the current state and not so distant makeup of the team. I think Chevy sees the reality sand going all in isn’t going to pay the necessary dividends.Jets haven't played a healthy stretch of games this year, so from the assessment point you still don't even know what you have as a team. Chevy has probably moved enough to keep Appleton out of the top 6 for the rest of the year, and that might pay dividends in Lowry's game.
Minnesota being aggressive surprised me, but I think they were in a safe spot to do so. More draft picks, more prospects, lest looming UFAs.
I don't mind the moves. Or the inaction.
Give the guys here a chance to prove themselves. If Dubois and Ehlers get back to playing dominant hockey it changes the look of this team. I don't think any extra outside moves beyond adding Niedrrater was going to change that.
Bottom 6 is still based on their defensive impact, PKing roles
Defense is still uncertain. I like that Dylan Samberg has the chance to maybe get his first playoff experience. Listening to Ken Holland talk about his younger inexperienced defense, at some point you have to let these guys prove themselves in the ultimate challenge.
If one of the consequences of the inaction is having the roster and Cap space to bring Heinola into the team for the rest of the year, I think that could be a net positive.
Jets Cap space is weaponized by having depth down the stretch.
Still have a great goalie at the end, and that could be a difference.
I guess what remains to be seen is how hard this team will battle for one another in the most challenging part of the season.
Agreed. Main reason why I'm curious what was still on the table when the TDL buzzer went.one more depth forward would have been fine...
The wings were all gone...just some nachos and veggiesAgreed. Main reason why I'm curious what was still on the table when the TDL buzzer went.
Another way to put it would be a middle sixer and a fourth liner.I mean Chevy added two top 9 forwards to a team low on forward depth. What did people actually want him to do remake the whole team?
That is possible, but I think (could be wrong) that he could have been had without the 1st. Maybe, maybe not.If there was interest in Schmaltz by Chevy it is probably revisited on the draft floor when Chevy knows where that pick is and potentially who is available.
As of right now there is a HUGE question mark as to where that Jets pick will be. There’s still potential that it’s part of the draft lottery if the Jets don’t correct their play real quick.
Not everyone agrees that everything is great with the Jets. A lot of us have been watching the same shit play out year after year and are fed up with it. It's time for changes. But sure as f*** exposes those who think that way
Meaning a loser mentality.
Why the hell not try to think positively for once....you'll find yourself smiling alot more.
When it comes to hockey or anything you enjoy watching...think positively...its entertainment, not life or death ffs
bjugstad and poolparty we could have gotteni agree, namestnikov isn't someone to get super excited about. at the minimum like you said he's better than waiver wire guys. & we accumulated a bunch of cap space and seemingly did nothing with it.
some of the the alternatives i liked were
domi (we didnt have a 2nd)
Bertuzzi (i wouldnt give up a 1st)
jvr (didnt get moved at all)
barbashev (a recent late 1st dont think i wouldve done that)
You can like your team and still be critical in your analysis of them. Good discourse isn’t one directional and everything doesn’t have to be sunshine and lollipops. But sure as f*** exposes those who think that way

that's decent, tbf. i think from my perspective, we had assets in cap space, picks and prospects to make one last push with this core. personally, i believe PLD and Helly will not extend here. 55 might, but not at the term/$$ we should be interested in.I mean Chevy added two top 9 forwards to a team low on forward depth. What did people actually want him to do remake the whole team?
bjugstad yeabjugstad and poolparty we could have gotten
true but still a much better chance he figures it out then what we currently havebjugstad yea
poolparty i like but he isn't helping with scoring/finishing
This is my thinking as well. If we start selling off better to have your own 1st round picks and your last few years of prospects as a starting point over an empty cupboard. If we end up in a bit of a rebuild on the other side of Scheif, Helle, PLD, Wheeler, Ehlers, Dillon, deMelo, Schimdt, Nino and Pionk getting moved or leaving over the next two seasons. Keeping those younger guys to help bolster a future core could be paramount.
All GMs of bubble teams get labeled as wishy washy.Last year when it was clear the Jets weren't making the playoffs they traded for a rental in Sanford, wasting assets.
I just can't grasp this wishy washy mentality of Chevy's.
