I would have preferred a top 6 forward to push guys down but I do like that we added some veteran size and ability to our bottom 6.

As was said above, if the team doesn't get back to executing the system it wouldn't matter who we picked up. That is the biggest component to playoff success for us.

Maybe, but if we drop out of the playoff picture we would be picking in the 12 - 16 range, and with how deep the front half of this draft is that is more like a 5-10 pick in many years. That isn't something traded away easily.
that's what i mean about being bold. are we building or re-building. get off the fence, chevy.

What if Arizona didn't move off a 1st round pick ask?
Pay it. He has term. This organization cannot afford to run a lottery team next year. Economic conditions are getting worse and apathy is already killing seat sales. The fans are fed up with a playoff team that sucks, can you imagine what we would be like losing, knowing Scheifele and Helle are likely on their way out too?

It’s deflating to not make more noise and add someone to who might provide some optimism. But I think the writing is on the wall for this team and Chevy has read it. Can’t go all in with picks because it’s unlikely to matter and the future is far too uncertain.
I doubt Chevy is around to deal with it anyway, if this team keeps free falling and misses the playoffs.

I don't think getting one more forward for the bottom six who could add scoring when we still have over 3 million in capspace was much of an ask...we needed 2 forward when perfetti was healthy

I don't disagree, but apparently Chevy was not willing to pay the acquisition prices after watching his team since Xmas. Pretty sure it was not about cap or money.

And what if you truly are on the fence, knowing you are a bubble team that is more than 1 player away, but at the same time having a lot of contract uncertainty with some of your star players. Teams in similar positions also kept their 1st round picks, and didn't sell off their stars, and only did some tweaking around the edges. Not sure why we would expect Chevy to decide on the course of the franchise at a single TD deadline.

Oh to be a fly on the wall. That is certainly true, which is why I try to keep my disappointment to a reasonable level because we just don't know.

Could be wrong, but I really think they could have gotten him without including a 1st. They got a mid round 1st and 2 2nds for Chychrun, and there was much more desire for him around the league.

Schmaltz has an absolutely terrible contract for the Yotes, and I would bet that their owner wants no part of it after this year. Stanley, another pick like a 2nd or 3rd, and another prospect like a Torgersson I think the Yotes think about because it's a TON of money for them to get out from.

Obviously it's just fans, but they were hoping for a 1st and 2nd, and some even less. Stanly IMO still has late 1st value.

I think that's the tough part. PLD, Scheif, Helle, Nino, Dillon, DeMelo and Wheeler all up in the air next year. Ehlers, Pionk and Schmidt the season after,

That's our two top 6 C's, a top 6 winger, two middle 6 wingers, 4 members of our defensive core and our franchise goalie all on the fence about what their future could be.

Hard to not be on the fence when half your team of players is also on the fence.

well maybe if he didn't want his team to slide he should have been proactive and actually get some help to fix our biggest weaknesses

keep the pick if you think it has too much potential. trade stanley, heinola, chisholm, chibrikov, and lambert for someone with term.

not a single 1st rounder moved today right?

not sure what folks were expecting..... when healthy namestnikov helps the bottom-6. if perfetti comes back we have nino now so that'll push a 2nd line caliber player down.

the D group this TDL was Chychrun, Ekholm and whole lotta meh/whore cares. they were never going to move Pionk or Schmidt.

I've been saying that for the last few days, that my impression that Chevy was holding onto his 1sts for dear life, not knowing what the contract situation will be with 3 of his star players.

I've been assuming he had a pretty good idea where all 3 stood. But his behaviour suggests a lot of uncertainty.

If we end up in a bit of a rebuild on the other side of Scheif, Helle, PLD, Wheeler, Ehlers, Dillon, deMelo, Schimdt, Nino and Pionk getting moved or leaving over the next two seasons. Keeping those younger guys to help bolster a future core could be paramount.
