It’s deflating to not make more noise and add someone to who might provide some optimism. But I think the writing is on the wall for this team and Chevy has read it. Can’t go all in with picks because it’s unlikely to matter and the future is far too uncertain.
I doubt Chevy is around to deal with it anyway, if this team keeps free falling and misses the playoffs.
Jets haven't played a healthy stretch of games this year, so from the assessment point you still don't even know what you have as a team. Chevy has probably moved enough to keep Appleton out of the top 6 for the rest of the year, and that might pay dividends in Lowry's game.
Minnesota being aggressive surprised me, but I think they were in a safe spot to do so. More draft picks, more prospects, less looming UFAs.
I don't mind the moves. Or the inaction.
Give the guys here a chance to prove themselves. If Dubois and Ehlers get back to playing dominant hockey it changes the look of this team. I don't think any extra outside moves beyond adding Niedrrater was going to change that.
Bottom 6 is still based on their defensive impact, PKing roles
Defense is still uncertain. I like that Dylan Samberg has the chance to maybe get his first playoff experience. Listening to Ken Holland talk about his younger inexperienced defense, at some point you have to let these guys prove themselves in the ultimate challenge.
If one of the consequences of the inaction is having the roster and Cap space to bring Heinola into the team for the rest of the year, I think that could be a net positive.
Jets Cap space is weaponized by having depth down the stretch.
Still have a great goalie at the end, and that could be a difference.
I guess what remains to be seen is how hard this team will battle for one another in the most challenging part of the season.
