If we ever embark on another rebuild asset wise it won't be as horrible as the beginning of Jets 2.0 that inherited Carl Klingberg as it's best prospect. The problem we will have during the next rebuild is fan support, and I for one don't blame the fans. One playoff appearance in the first 7 years. Truly only 15 months of joy. The beginning of the 2017 to December 2018. 2020-2023 has just been one long journey of spinning our tires. We are on every good players no trade list. PLD basically forcing us to trade him to one destination. It really is hard to be a fan of this organization and not all is TNSE and managements fault. It is like us as fans have to play the game on super sicko mode when other franchises get it on easy mode.
I disagree. I think they will be starting from a worse position depending on what they get for Scheifele, Dubois, and Helly.
The 2011-12 Winnipeg Jets had:
25 year old Blake Wheeler - first line winger
20 year old Kane - first line winger
26 year old Ladd - first or second line winger
24 year old Little - 2nd line centre
-also used Atlanta's 7th overall pick on 18-year old Schiefele.
26 year old Buff - #1 d-man
27 year old Enstrom - #1 or top-pairing d-man
21 year old Bogo - 2nd pairing d-man
30 year old Hainsey - 2nd pairing d-man
Many of these players had just signed or were about to sign (in the next year or 2) long-term extensions so there was no concern of losing them to free agency as the club was building up their talent. In contrast, many of the current core Jets are coming close to the end of their current extensions (Ehlers, Connor, arguably some of the d-man like Dillon and Demelo).
Without Scheif, Dubois and Helly, we have the above-mentioned players who the clock is ticking on. After that, what do we have for a proven core besides Morrissey with decent length left on their contracts. Guys like Schmidt and Pionk are overpaid for what they bring to the table and are probably not ideal top-4 d man..at least not both of them.
Sure, the Jets have more prospects than the Atlanta team we inherited, but are the likes of Perfetti, McGroaty, Lucius, Heinola, Samberg collectively going to be as good as the guys I listed above from 2011-12? I have my doubts.
