This team has way more talent than 2014-15. Buff was the only real star at the time. Wheeler hadn't broken out yet. Little and Ladd are far below Scheifele, Connor, PLD and Ehlers. And Pavs isn't even in the stratosphere as Helly.
Ladd and Little were underrated. LLW was a really solid top line. Scheifele was 21 and put up 49 points getting 2nd line minutes and on the 2nd powerplay unit...probably a more complete two-way player then than he's been in the last month or so this season. Perreault, Frolik, Kane (then Stafford) Buff, Enstrom, Trouba (plus after the Kane trade: Myers). Depth up and down the lineup. The whole team played well by any metric you want to look at.

Up to the All-Star break, Hutchinson was playing the best hockey of his career, while Pavelec was Pavelec (up to the end of February, Pavs was a .909 with -4.44 GSAA...40th in the league). But then in March, Pavelec miraculously went on the tear of his life. For the last 14 games of the season he was the best goalie in the league: .944, 11.62 GSAA. In the Zone. Lights out. Then in the playoffs he regressed to his below average mean and the Jets were done. That team with Hellebuyck had the depth and skill to go deep...

I don't think Helle and Scheif plan on sticking it out here. Both can get large sums of money in FA and both are likely looking at locking themselves up long term 7-8 years at as much money as they can get.
I hope Helle will ,I bet TNSE will give Scheifele whatever he asks.

About what I expected.

Not a fan of Namestinkov...probably could have grabbed a better option but whatever, not going to move the needle either way.

Shocked we didn't grab any depth on D. We aren't very deep there at all, I know we have 7 guys locked onto the NHL roster but one of them demonstrably isn't a NHL quality player. A couple injuries away from Samberg, Heinola and Stanley all being counted on. The only one of those three showing any quality at the NHL level so far is Samberg. That tells me where our executives view of this current team is...they don't expect them to get anywhere.

My dream for the future is that Chevy (or whoever is running the team) can read the situation and move faster on the core guys who truly don't want to be here even if this team is a contender. We moved Trouba too late, we'll move Dubois too late and both times slam the window shut on contending with the core group we had. Each year when these situations are coming to a head the whole club has just gone to shit on the ice and it can't be fun.

Do better in the summer.

You forgot to mention Lee Stempniak the Winnipeg Jets icon.

And a minute later this Huckleberry is another notch on Doc Holliday's pistol.
Great movie. Great scene. Vintage Val Kilmer.

Oh yeah Chevy, nice adds or great standing pat or conserving picks for the rebuild or going for it or just tweaking for a sorta run.

Whatever the hell you're doing, it made you positively giddy today. Nice to see.

Always entertaining. GJG

Stemp Signal activated.

A leader for then. A leader for now.

The pickup by which all others will forever be measured.

And we let him go.

Well, it’s over. Hopefully we will make someone’s life a little harder in the playoffs — once we actually get there.

If this team gets past the first 2 rounds and comes short in the 3rd or 4th. Remember this day....
Win series vs 2 of Colorado, Dallas and Minnesota...no chance.

Our GF-GA vs Minni this year is 2-10 and those games were when we still thought we were good.

Dallas and Colorado both spanked us once and we pulled another out vs them in OT.

If we ever embark on another rebuild prospect wise it won't be as horrible as the beginning of Jets 2.0 that inherited Carl Klingberg as it's best prospect. The problem we will have during the next rebuild is fan support, and I for one don't blame the fans. One playoff appearance in the first 6 years. Truly only 15 months of joy. The beginning of the 2017-2018 season to December 2018. 2019-2023 has just been one long journey of spinning our tires. We are on every good players no trade list. PLD basically forcing us to trade him to one destination. It really is hard to be a fan of this organization and not all is TNSE and managements fault. It is like us as fans have to play the game on super sicko mode when other franchises get it on easy mode.

This is a good point. Much easier to rebuild when you have a rabid fan base willing to cheer on anything that is on the ice. Much tougher when fans buy tickets at the last minute waiting for the best discounts.

I don't disagree with you. The good thing about sports , is your future and self worth isn't dependent on how your sports team does. Or at least it shouldn't be.

For me I have fun with it all roll with the punches. I can see both sides of the load up, and don't piss away your future debate. But in honesty I would have done what Chevy has done. Prop up the now as best you can without being reckless with your future. Every single team in the mid tier of the NHL did the very same thing. The rich bought, the poor sold and the middle class held tight.

Agreed, I'm just going to enjoy the rest of the ride.

Those waiting for the discount could be a completely different fan base - maybe those that can't afford season tickets?
I think we have a lot of fans in this city that are Jets through and through - but they may not be able to afford tickets.
I also get how this would frustrate some of the current season ticket holders - it's almost like buying a last minute ticket on a flight - they tend to get them cheaper but don't necessarily have the seat choices or convenience of knowing if they can even get on the flight.

I think you will always have both types of buyers

The ST base has already taken a huge hit. Winnipeg is a small city and 41 regular season and 4 pre-season games is a lot of hockey. More and more people I know have given up their ST and just go to the odd game here and there. And they know they can always get a ticket if they want. Little off topic for the TD thread however.

Guess I'm a simpleton lol. It beats being grumpy and negative all the time, consideting that neither mindset actually affects outcomes.

Being positive/realistic/stoic is a superpower
I had a real change of life when my mom passed coupled with a couple of really good friends coming into my life who always thought positively and it had been transformational.

I'm so much more happy and successful today. I get pissed when the Jets struggle just like everyone here but I allow those feelings and then let them go.

I wish I discovered that in my 20s

As a season ticket holder, I would probably feel the same way -
Yes, we're off topic - that happens sometimes but apologies regardless.

Winter is Coming
Considering most ppl had us missing the playoffs, getting there is exceeding expectations. I'd have liked to see 1 more move for the bottom 6 but maybe just maybe none of the available guys would really make a difference

We’re still in a slug to get there. Can we confidently say we can be Colorado, Minnesota or Dallas? We can’t and will likely be another wasted year of 37s prime.

Honestly, there are times Chevy makes moves and I’m like “Yes. Okay, this guy gets it.” And then there are clear instances as the last two deadlines where it just looks like they’re trying to have their cake and eat it too. Not moving out Stas at deadline last year and buying (Appleton and Sanford), a lack of concerted effort at deadline with a clear window that’s shutting by EOY.

Im ready to move on from Chevy at this point; he’s good at drafting and building with high picks but his lack of aggressive moves to put this core over the top will be the narrative of his legacy.

Okay after we picked up Nino and Name what is the bottom 6 pecking order? We know Lowry and Apples are there and also likely Barron. If healthy (Perfetti back in the top 6) that leaves one spot open,

After that my order is Stenlund, Axel, Gus, Gagner, Sak and KK.

The people we ”choose“ to surround ourselves with have a massive impact on us. Two positive friends in an inner circle is a force multiplier that has a compound effect.
