I have a funny feeling Holland likes aspects of Puljujarvi's game and is not going to give him up easily and is still banking on him caving and joining the team next season.
I think that's probably the case. Unless he was getting something of value why just trade the guy for the sake of trading him.

Oh man, I may be the only person on this board excited about our new third line.
I can’t wait to not only see, but have them all extended for next season.

going to be fun watching these guys. Add sleppy next year and dump one of Neal or chiasson would be ideal
I'm just excited we have something that you can call a NHL third line.

As well as Treliving on that garbage heap site. It's a pretty damn good timeline.

I think with AA he probably wanted him for some time. Whether we were in or not I think he would've made that trade today.

All about timing sometimes. Detroit probably wanted more and were hoping he'd get going a bit more, but finally had enough.

I was reading about the trade on the Wings board and apparently that was Yzerman's asking price, the two seconds. So Holland got him to take a cap dump in Gagner and an additional prospect added in it.

Says he didnt try to get a center but honestly hes probably not going to tell the media of what he did or didnt try to do.
The way he was talking last presser it was as if he was looking, but there really was nothing out there unless you wanted to be dumb either force the wrong piece or overpay.

Matheson's questions were dreadful.
Did he ask what Paul Coffey is up to again?

My impressions on the deals:
  • I don't have any issue with the price we paid to land Green, but D depth didn't feel that pressing an issue and we added more cap than I would of liked. Though ofcourse you can never have too much D depth if you are planning on a deep run, we'll see if that ends up being the case, but even with the trades I'm guessing we don't pass the 2nd round.
  • Ennis for a 5th round pick is nothing but great, very low price to pay for a rental who can help.
  • Then the big deal, got no problem adding Athanasiou I recognize the upside even just cracking the 30 goal barrier once puts him in a rare class. My expectation for what Athanasiou would cost was probably a 2nd round pick and a 4th round pick that could scale up based on goal scoring performance in the next 1 or 2 seasons to a 2nd round pick, two second round picks right off the bat with no condition is obviously better than that, but obviously them eating Gagner's cap hit carries some value, as for Kuffner I'm not really putting any value into that addition given his age he should be doing more in the AHL, but maybe he's better than I'm giving him credit for, I've got no familiarity with him other than what I can see on hockeydb. I think this one was a modest overpay, though I'm sure with the benefit of hindsight this will be a homerun or a complete flop, I don't see much middle ground with Athanasiou.
My only real complaints about the deadline is we pressed ourselves a bit too hard against the cap ceiling in light of bonuses we have to pay and secondly we are right at the 50 contract limit which will effectively take us out of the college free agent period unless someone wants to do us a favor or we want to concede a marginal asset for a contract spot.

Whats the whole deal about Slepyshev ?

Also one does not simply dump James Neal... he is a 5.75M declining PP specialist...

Still don't understand Florida trading Trochek. That was the best deal of the day for Toronto.

Holland has been in contact with him and his agent. He has also seemingly put his game together and his having his best pro season yet. You never know, moving Neal is completely possible in the off season. He is a year removed from 20 goal season and bottom feeders would take an asset back. Who knows with Holland, I agree though, chiasson is the most likely candidate to move

He's been rumored for quite some time to be dealt. Not sure if it's a new coach thing or what.

There was also a rumor out there that they have to cut salary by 10mil next year, so who knows.

These trades are going to work out great Green and AA are going to play way better than they were in Detroit , when you're on extremely bad teams it's like going to a job you hate everyday , and no matter what anyone says you do not put in your best effort under those circumstances ,this will apply to Ennis as well all 3 will have a new jolt of energy ,and will all be bringing their A games from now into the playoffs. Finally a great GM at the wheel
