Genuinely curious. Do people think Adams is consulting his front office and (respected) analytics department about these decisions? History seems to suggest that he adheres to a consultative management style. Yet most of the criticism points to personal failings on Adam's part: he's a dimwitted mope or lacks the balls to make the big trade or both. Maybe he's simply listening to the best advice of his organization?
I would bet his Amateur Scouting director is telling him: Don't trade my picks!

This is very true, however.......

If Adams does nothing and the Sabres miss the playoffs, a lot of people are going to be pissed but,........

If Adams makes a good trade or two to make the team better without crippling the future and they miss the playoffs, I think most will feel a whole lot better about Adams and the situation because at least he did his job and tried.

If he does nothing and they make the playoffs anyway, awesome. How can anyone complain.
People are going to be pissed if the Sabres miss the playoffs regardless of the moves that Adams makes or doesn't make.

If Adams had traded for Chychrun and they miss, people are going to be pissed and wanting different moves to happen.

Fans want results and will complain if they do not get the results they want regardless of the moves that are made. If the results aren't there, the moves will be judged as not good enough.

Exhibit A: the Bills after how the season ended after Beane signed Von Miller as an all in type move.

Fixing holes sure as hell betters the odds of making the playoffs.
Making trades do not guarantee that the players added make things better.

Trades do not work out all the time.

And sometimes, the best trades are the ones that you do not make.

I want to see Buffalo in the playoffs as much as anyone else on here. I want the team to be improved as much as anyone else on here.

HOWEVER, you have to give Adams a bit of a break. The East is stacked as hell right now, spending any meaningful assets on rentals or mostly rental players would be wrong right now because even if we make it to the playoffs, you can all guys see it would almost surely be 1 round and out. Yes, Chychrun would have been great, because he is not a rental, and it sucks that he went to the Sens instead. I also think Adams could have beaten the Sens offer. But it is not a massive sin that we didn't manage to get one single player. No one else that has moved so far realistically was needed here (even including Meier, who we have no idea if he would have been interested to re-sign here long term), so I think we should hold a bit before passing on final judgement...at least until the trade deadline passes. Maybe KA manages to scoop someone on the cheap after most other teams that are buying already spent most of their assets and cap space, so someone available now would have less competition for a trade.

So i know we're at "Do something Darcy!!!" levels with GMKA.

I understand not overpaying for rentals.

But with 3 2nds and 2 3rds in this draft. It would be nice to get at least some depth in a position of need. Maybe a slightly better D than Stillman.

We don't need all those picks. You can only have so many in the prospect pool and Sabres have tons right now at forward.

Which players have a personal connection to Adams? Relatives, buddies etc?

We don't have any prospect depth at G and D. Those picks could be useful, definitely more useful than a depth rental in a stacked Division & Conference, when we are at best a bubble team.

Don't kid yourself. Adams is going skilled, soft forward with all but one of those picks. The one exception will be reaching on a goalie nobody heard of or wants...

Dennis Gilbert, depth d-man with the Flames - his uncle Mike worked for the team for years. Mike is a pretty good dude from my experiences with him over the years. But I don't know why he's not with them any longer, was out of town when he and the team parted ways.

Crouse and Vejmelka for a 2024 1st round pick (top 5 protected), Topias Leinonen, Ben Bishop and some sort of B prospect they like.

Parayko for Joker and a 2023 2nd round pick

^ My ideas to address goalie, depth forward and #4 D without spending too much capital.

I bet that is more than Adams is willing to spend.
