Have there been any reports on if Kane was interested in coming home to Buffalo before getting traded to the Rangers?

Yeah but if you miss on a trade by making it or not making it you're paying for it for years to come.
Right. We'll be paying for all of the trades we didn't make because those players will be on on other teams making them better.

Chychrun to Ottawa is going to be a problem for us for years because we're going to play against him. We're playing him once this season, 4 times next season and 4 times next season after that.

It would be like Adams to nix the deal out of fear of Johnson not signing here

This summer will be telling in that regard.
I will tread on this speculation carefully per advice from consul :D but perhaps passing on Chych is a sign Johnson is looking good to sign ?

I agree on the COO/Pegs/budget comments, were screwed if KA was told he could not make the deal by higher ups and it might be a issue discussing more.

Genuinely curious. Do people think Adams is consulting his front office and (respected) analytics department about these decisions? History seems to suggest that he adheres to a consultative management style. Yet most of the criticism points to personal failings on Adam's part: he's a dimwitted mope or lacks the balls to make the big trade or both. Maybe he's simply listening to the best advice of his organization?
They are his consultants .. buck has to stop somewhere

I think he's consulting others on these decisions and ultimately he is responsible.

I just think they have a plan in their heads about only drafting and developing players and always having a well stocked cupboard, but they're being too rigid and dogmatic about that approach in the same way Krueger was too rigid about his system.

Dreger says Adams is poking around. Also says he doesn't expect him to do a whole heck of a lot.
If Adams gets Crouse for a decent price- I'll forgive him, though the need for a RD is pressing.
also mentioned remaining list is thin, he mentioned don't look for Krause to be moved (per his agent) as he is expected to be named the next captain of AZ, Marty and Duffer mentioned Schmaltz as one player they would still like.

Adams' body of work as a GM:

Trade -
Riley Stillman
Alex Tuch
Peyton Krebs
Will Butcher
Malcolm Subban
Robert Hagg
Anders Bjork
Eric Staal

UFA-
Craig Anderson
Dustin Tokarski
Aaron Dell
Vinnie Hinostroza
Mark Pysyk
Cody Eakin
John Hayden
Mark Jankowski
Ryan MacInnis
Matt Irwin
Steven Fogarty
Riley Sheahan - twice
Tobias Rieder
Brandon Davidson
Michael Houser - thrice
Lawrence Pilut

Waivers-
Tyson Jost
Drake Caggiula

Draftees-
Owen Power
Jack Quinn
JJ Peterka

It seems pretty clear he's not going to improve the team in free agency and if one removes trading the face of the franchise, he has not had anything but bottom of the barrel trade acquisitions. He can claim he doesn't want to pay all he wants, the results remain sub-optimal. "Vibes" will only carry the team so far when talent gaps exist.
Didn't he sign Taylor Hall and trade for Staal or was that Botts? (I can't remember). regardless of the outcome, I would consider that a big FA signing.

Whoa, way too measured approach here. Everyone knows nuanced executive decisions are best made with guts, balls, quotes about charging into battle (entirely removed from historical context), analysis of which brave men get statues built for them, magic 8 balls, ChatGPT, etc.

I’m not mad at the inactivity. By the Arizona report, it may be that Adams had a big offer in for Chychrun but it got turned down due to the manner Armstrong is tanking (no salary adds).

I’d love to see a big push for Fabbro and Sissons. Maybe a bigger deal for Saros?

Was it Weekes that mentioned that UPL could be on the move?

Crouse would be a stunner. It’d take a lot, but he’s the type of player Buffalo does t have.

If we're expanding Buffalo's geographic area from 1,600 square miles to the entirety of the 15,000 sq miles of western new york and 5,000-10,000 additional in Canada shouldn't we expand the other makets by 20,000sq miles too? To be fair?

Buffalo would also be at the bottom of that expanded list.

look at other areas of the country and the radius around them. many are 75 mile+ radii around the cities.

North to South Seattle is 150 miles along I-5 without taking into account wider metro areas. Thats the same as Buffalo thru syracuse

Houston as well has such a radius as does Dallas. DC market would reach out past rochester.

look at 75 mile radius and count all the population within that radius. 75miles as the bird flies getsmost of toronto metro and hamilton. It would include all of Rochester and parts of elmira and parts of Erie, Pa

Yes, that 5-2.5% chance of a 2nd or 3rd round pick turning into a 100-game NHLer might sink them.

NHL players have guaranteed contracts. If you get the wrong player, you're stuck with them or paying someone else to take them off your hands.

I'm not saying you don't make moves but your quote about taking shots isn't the same as making trades. There is always another shot a few seconds later and the last one didn't cost you anything.

I'm not a fan of "let's throw a bunch of shit against the wall and see if it sticks" method of team building. Not saying you believe that either but the analogy does.

I see you guys had quite the evening

Maybe KA has a Fabbro in him to settle this place down, probably not, but can we at least wait until Friday afternoons 'I tried' presser before going off the deep end this time lol
Narrator: '...and they could not wait'

j/k Schmaltz is an elite player off the rush, seems like he'd be a great fit, but yeah I know

The opportunity arose and the Sabres weren't able to get it done. This clearly isn't a broadcast method of acquisition - didn't hear that they were interested in Ekholm or Hronek - they bid on Chychrun and couldn't get it done. They very much did not take their shot and they very much didn't get the player.
