Only one NHL market is smaller than Buffalo. Winnipeg.
Do you even know what you're arguing? He said the NHL favors large markets, I said that's not true and listed the latest Stanley Cup Champs. I'm not saying those cities are the same-sized market as Buffalo.

I live in NYC, I'm well aware how small Buffalo is.

Every team is a large market compared to Buffalo (other than half the Canadian ones).
The statement was the NHL pays favorites to large markets, which I disagreed with. But I guess if you consider 30 teams, large markets comparatively, that would be the case. But that isn't what I was disagreeing with.

JOKER AT $5mil

third contracts are going to be higher.. MCCabe got $4M. Hoepw much dies he get?
I've been saying it all season, and you're not even being the slightest bit conservative on Dahlin's contract. Buffalo would not have been able to afford paying Meier or Chychrun on new contracts without losing someone pretty big.

the issue was cap growth. This is why Power on a bridge gives the team some short term flexibility until skinner retires.
Cap will be higher 3 years from now even with the Bally stuff.

no it won’t. Bankruptcy courts are very complex and trans not getting local revenue.
Stop paying fourth liners 3 million dollars?
Girgs isn’t getting a raise On next contract? He’s st 2.2 or

BREAKING

Sabres acquire Connor McDavid in exchange for Riley Stillman and a Philadelphia 2nd

"Overpay by Adams"
"He couldn't have given up a 3rd instead?"
"Would've rather had Draisaitl"

I can show you what they’ve done since laying off staff during Covid. It’s spend the least amount of money in the NHL.
See my previous post. There are obvious reasons why that makes sense in the short term, and they've had success despite it, so clearly they are doing something right.

I REALLY don't want to argue about this because it's just pure speculation. I avoided commenting on it for a long time because I didn't want to engage with it, and don't want to now. You can continue to believe what you want, but for anyone else reading the constant hammering on that point, please don't think it's based on any real facts. Yes, the team has spent less recently, but that is not actually a reason to believe they are unwilling to ever again.

The government started sending out regular checks to all citizens during Covid. You should also not expect that to continue, FWIW.

I'm not arguing about it - I'm just saying that Buffalo looks up in size to almost anyone. I don't believe in the large market bias beyond the networks and some free agents, which does exist. I am not sure I'm there to believe that the NHL intentionally fixes it against the small markets. If anything, the cap exists to protect them.

What?

DC is the 6th largest metro area in the US clocking in at 6.4million
Tampa, St Louis, and Denver are 18th-21st, 3.2-2.8 million
Pittsburgh 27th 2.4million

Buffalo 49th 1.2million

buffalo does not count the $1M+ thst live between Hamilton and buffalo.

it’s also one of the smallest markets in terms of radius because Rochester is its own market which is not counted, mor is the Corning/ bath/ Elmira market.

DC, has a larger area getting northern Virginia and northern maryland

buffalo Market hits most of Toronto metro area so advertisers understand this and the importance of buffalo as a de facto top 10 market.

similsr with Seattle airing in Vancouver and Victoria metro areas.

You're the one arguing that DC is a small market bud. Do you consider Toronto a small market too? What about Dallas?

If we want to jump up from metro areas to combined statistical areas Buffalo would still be near the bottom of the list.

edit: If you combine Buffalo, the southern tier, Southern Ontario and Rochester you get ~3.5million people which still only gets us to about 19th on the list

Unlikely, that 2nd is untouchable
Lol

PHam: “Kevin, Edmonton made it very clear that they were willing to part ways for a 2nd and stillman, why didn’t u pull the trigger?”

Kevin: “yeahhh, u know paul thats a good question. When i look at this team, i believe in internal development of our roster. We dont want to box out players like krebs, JJ and Cozens. Also, we like what we saw from Vinny in the capitals game. And lets not forget, we have Devon Levi. Im so impressed with this kid that I will bring him up every chance i get. Even if it doesn’t make sense to the question at hand. I have a picture of devon on my nightstand which reminds me i need to buy more lotion and tissues after we are done here.”

Girgs at 3x3, Joker at 5, two 3m goalies? Don’t see it
I want Joker traded sooner than later for this exact reason. His price is going to rise above his replacement cost, and above what I want to spend on a 3rd pair dman that needs the right partner to be effective. I don't like a third pairing dman at those prices that doesn't play the PK or PP. He could be a better fit as a long term second pair next to a more defensive partner. He had to have a 1st round pick value given his age and contract.

I love Girgs and want him on a 3 year contract, but I am not paying 3 AAV for a 4th line winger. Your paying your defensive 1st pair dman 4 AAV. I would be willing to give him a small raise and do 3 years at 2.5 AAV. Still steep.

Kevin has got to have and keep a available goalie budget. You will pay 10 mill a year for one defenseman that is on the ice one third of the time, vs a starting goaltender that is on the ice 60% of the time thru the season and is arguably more impactful on goal differential? We need to be willing and able to pay for quality goaltenders.

We wouldn't need him to bring an elite offensive game. Just the elite defensive game. The position flexibility & local connection in Craig Rivet don't hurt either.

I see zero chance of you guys moving him even though I've seen his name mentioned once or twice in the rumour mill.
But Calgary prob wants you to pay for the offensive side as well, I know I will, but I doubt others teams would. I wouldn't trade him rn simply cuz I think it's a dick move to sign someone then move him right away.

Seems like a strawman since the board has not reacted to that at all.

If you happen to remember which episode this was I’d love to listen!

It's been in the last week, may have been last Friday's because I was in the car listening to a previous day's episode and Monday was the last time I was in the car in the afternoon.
