Trade Deadline Thread (March 3)

  • Xenforo Cloud will be upgrading us to version 2.3.5 on March 3rd at 12 AM GMT. This version has increased stability and fixes several bugs. We expect downtime for the duration of the update. The admin team will continue to work on existing issues, templates and upgrade all necessary available addons to minimize impact of this new version. Click Here for Updates
This team is not competing until Cozens, Peterka, Quinn and Power are mucb better, more consistent contributors. The team also needs a coaching adjustment in a major way, but that is a discussion for another thread.
This.

We are seeing a lot of emotional reactions to what the GM is doing (the kind of reactions that would have led us to ditching TNT this past off-season) and not any talk about our coach (who I like) and the lack of any defensive system.

A top four D is not going to stop our team from being a sieve defensively.

This is also on my list of things I am not sweating this year, but expect to be addressed by the start of next season.

what? the way the NHL is set up is literally the opposite of this.

The huge markets that have won recently of *checks notes*
Colorado (I'll give you this one, although Denver hardly a power house market)
Tampa
St Louis
DC
Pittsburgh
What?

DC is the 6th largest metro area in the US clocking in at 6.4million
Tampa, St Louis, and Denver are 18th-21st, 3.2-2.8 million
Pittsburgh 27th 2.4million

Buffalo 49th 1.2million

I do not see the defensive issues being a lack of system as much as it is a variety of factors, most notably being the youngest team in the NHL.

Young teams that play an offense first style are rarely solid defensively.

Just look at the average age of the Sabres and the Bruins for instance.

This team is also going to win and lose games based on the ups and downs of Thompson, Power, Cozens, etc. Nothing is changing that for this year. We’re going to see some ugly games and pretty games. Likely strung together in winning and losing streaks over the next 24 games

Still wondering who our top 6 defenders are? Is this the same top 6 for next year too?

I'm not buying that Pegula's not willing to spend on the team, for the record. They've spent a s***load on money on the team without any success and have even signed multiple big contracts recently.

We didn't not acquire Chychrun because his 4 million dollar contract for 2 years was too rich for our blood. That's ridiculous.

You show me some high priced contract you think they didn't sign because it was too expensive, and I'll show you 5 other reasons why it didn't make sense to do that having nothing to do with the money.

Has anyone actually looked at the 25/26 cap?

if Power follows Dahlin with a 6M bridge…
Girgs is resigned for 3M per for 3 yrs
Dahlin resigned for 9
Joker or another D acquired and is st $5M hit
assume Kulich, Savoie, Rosen are on the team on ELCs FTSOA at $1M each
2 G on roster making combines 6M

Cap is $86M…don’t see it higher due to Bally sports issues.
3 vacant D, 2 vacant F
Quinn, Peterka, and Krebs on bridges ( what amount?)

they project to have about $17M in space.
if you pencil in the 5 vacant at $1M and the 3 bridges at $10M combined gives them just $2M in space to play with.
JOKER AT $5mil

I can show you what they’ve done since laying off staff during Covid. It’s spend the least amount of money in the NHL.

They built a team with a lot of young players. They are cheap. They get extensions if it works out. We gave extensions. Then plan worked as we have built a very good young core who is winning.

Glad I could explain it to you

Dahlin
Power
Samuelsson
Jokiharju
Lyubushkin
Bryson/Stillman/Clague

Clague is an RFA and the rest are under contract for next season.

The most likely D to crack the top 6 will be Ryan Johnson if he signs with the Sabres.

Outside of that, I would be surprised if Adams does something like trading Jokiharju+ for an upgrade at Power's partner before the start of next season.

Are you really counting these as a "major large market"? Because that's not. A major large market would be a city that actually comes in the Top 10 or even Top 5

Rangers, Kings, Toronto, Montreal, Boston, Chicago.

The first place team in the Metro is the f***ing Carolina Hurricanes who play in Raleigh.

Really? and will Adams sit on his hands like he is now? Why would players come here if the Pegs don't want to pay them?

Sorry I don't have blind faith like you do.

I’d rather have blind faith than blind hate.

Or in the case of your pegula-is-cheap theory, I’d rather just not make up stuff

Montreal and Boston are both smaller than DC.

Every team is a large market compared to Buffalo (other than half the Canadian ones).

The pegulas can be selectively cheap, which you can see in the NFLPA survey that got released yesterday. They invested in a new weight room for the Bills, but continue splitting a nutritionist between both teams rather than having dedicated ones for each team. They’ve also got childcare programs for the players but have relatively cramped travel arrangements and are one of the few teams in the league that insist on rookies sharing rooms on the road.

I never said Pegula is cheap I asked a question. Don't put words in my mouth.

You just making shit up.
