The asset management of this club has been weird since Hexy came over and it seems like they just kind of don't know what the team should be. Why go through all the trouble to sign Kap, not to use him, and ultimately to lose him to waivers? We could have done this whole dance months ago.
Kap would be here if Rutta was still injured. This wasn’t some coming of Jesus moment for Hextall where he realized, damn this bottom six sucks. Kap was waived to make a spot for Rutta.

If the report is accurate that a team made an offer to sleepy earlier in the season for Kap and he passed on it, that’s horrible. Add it to the countless reasons to fire sleepy.

Yep exactly, no plan…just throwing shit against the wall signing players and hoping something sticks…

I wish we continued to throw shit against the wall to see if it sticks. Sleepy did it this summer, but has done nothing since. The front office has been too lazy to even try anything else since the season started.

The team has no identity, no plan besides simply re-signing guys and ignoring young players.

This is the second time this season we've lost depth pieces to waivers because our cap was f***ed, lol. Even if you don't think of Kap or Zohorna as having any value, I think most agree it'd probably be nice to have them over Carter and McGinn. At least cheaper, and same net result.

Maybe late career Kunitz lol…not as good a scorer…
Kunitz wasn't a big scorer until his 30's. He was 29 when the Pens traded for him. Barbashev just turned 27, had 26 goals and 60 points last season as a 25/26 year old. Kunitz had similar production at 27 (25 goals/60 points). Kunitz was having a down year as Barbashev is when Pens traded for him. Barbashev may never reproduce what he did last season but his forechecking and hitting abilities a la Kunitz would be more appreciated on this Pens team.

The prospect the Blues will get for Barbashev won't be as good as Pickering but better than, say, Hallander. Meaning we wouldn't have the assets. Plus he's a likely rental (we wouldn't want to give him the 4M contract he'll command).

I would have much rather given him a 4 million per contract to play in the top 9 than Rust's 5.1 tbh.

This deadline is shaping up to be like the summer Shero put all of his eggs in the Parise/Suter basket and obviously had no back up plan when they chose another team.

Hextall is still celebrating the fact that they completed a waiver claim successfully. He wasn’t sure if he filled out the paperwork correctly.

Never mind the fact that Suter said he wanted to stay in the western conference and be close to Wisconsin.
At least Shero had a basket

That’s true, though it was widely known that Suter wanted to stay in the western conference and be close to Wisconsin. I guess Shero didn’t own a map or know what teams were in each conference.

At least Shero worked full-time and wasn’t a coward, even if he was a crappy GM.

I don't think we're going to see our names attached to any big moves, no.

I'll revise my statement and say I think I'll be shocked if we move ANYONE this TDL.

Shocker, sleepy’s laziness…I mean patience kills us again.

But let’s be mad that the media isn’t blaming Sully enough! Leave sleepy alone!

So, Meier to NJ and no-one to Pittsburgh?
Honestly, though, Meier is in a whole different league than what we could’ve landed. The only realistic shot I think we ever had at a “big fish” was a situation like Boeser where there was a whole lot of risk attached to getting him, and buying low on a guy who might bounce back…or flop hard.

I know people like to dump on Pensburgh, but one of their articles said it well the other day. Ron Hextall is mostly the reason this roster looks like it does. Do we really want to give him the license to be the guy to try and “fix” it? And we know the problems go beyond roster construction.

I think this season is giving a lot of weight to doing a complete housecleaning in the offseason from the FO to the coaching staff to the roster. We've got all the hallmarks of a dysfunctional organization, even if the inevitable leaks about it haven't started yet.

Smart moves go hand in hand to winning. Pens just have ot been smart in years. sully believes his way is the only way and he needs to go. Hextall is a GM prospect and draft GM and not the GMJR wheel and deal GM. I have posted a couple smart moves give the Pens a chance here. Now what the other Metro teams and Atlantic teams do will change that narrative. Meier to NJ, Kane to the Rangers, so Pens either play the game to compete or they don't.

Compete for WHAT exactly
