As a Coyotes fan I'm happy. We moved out a 2nd and 4th and we got back a pair of 3rds (assuming Dallas makes the playoffs). Given that Arizona has a bazillion picks over the next few drafts, I'm willing to call that a wash. To me, the picks sent out versus the picks acquired, are essentially a net neutral. Not real discernable difference to me. Picks evened out.
Then there's the Bryan Little dump. He's never playing again. LTIR. And insurance is paying 80% of his contract. That's really very insignificant for Arizona. This isn't some big burden that will influence the budget or other moves. Much like the shifting of draft picks, I'm going to say this is inconsequential. So with that and the picks out of the way, it leaves only the players.
Out:
Riley Nash, Johan Larsson, and Scott Wedgewood
In:
Jack McBain, Nathan Smith, and Harri Sateri
^ That's a really good trade. Three UFA vets that don't figure into next season for two solid prospects and a perfectly adequate replacement for the back-up. As a Coyotes fan, it sure feels an awful lot like getting Jack McBain and Nathan Smith basically for free.
The picks in (2x 3rds) vs. the picks out (2nd+4th) are a wash. The Little dump is a wash. Wedgewood and Sateri are a wash. Nash and Larsson weren't going to be re-signed and are both 4th line veterans, anyway. The only net change, from my perspective, is that McBain and Smith were added. Nothing else really matters, at all.
Feels an awful lot like just getting McBain and Smith for nothing.
