Even if they were hellbent on trading him, fair enough.

But I don't think I could've thought of two players that were of less use to what we needed than Kerplunk and Barrie.
I got roasted for defending him and criticizing the trade. His attitude, his reckless behaviour, etc.,

And interesting now how common it is to note the tough to miss double-standard in officiating where Toronto is concerned. It's almost a weekly gripe. And well...It held true in the Boston series where Kadri gave as good as he got.

A talented, gritty 2C who could and would fight for his club and who signed team friendly deals, who cost us $4.5M per.

Did I mention it still stings? Sonuva...!!!

Maple Leafs gets rejected by one of their top targets and former player!

Toronto now has to shift plans with hours left to make a move… Full story down below:

The Toronto Maple Leafs might have targeted Ryan O’Reilly from Nashville with hours left on deadline day, but according to Sportsnet’s Elliotte Friedman, the veteran forward has rejected the idea.

“Even though he doesn’t have a no-move clause, the Predators are treating it like he does. They won’t trade him unless it’s a big offer and unless he agrees to it. I think Toronto looked into O’Reilly and I think they were told he didn’t have an interest in that reunion.”

What about buying “low” on Mittelstadt?

Nelson is the 2C now and at the price they paid I think the Avs re-sign him.

More of a longterm play because Mittelstadt has not been good this year.

No argument there, but are they really a serious Cup threat? Just because they may not get any better than they are now shouldn't convince anyone that they're good enough to warrant mortgaging what little they have left of their prospect pool.

And that's simply what I'm arguing: Instead of this group deciding that last season's loss to the Bruins was the last straw and coming out this year like a team that simply will not accept losing anymore we've seen more of the same.

A very good team, but not notably better despite adding Tanev, Stolarz and OEL (the first two in particular have been oustanding). Matthews has been off all year, their special teams are nothing special, the bottom 6 has not produced consistently.

So they're not a legit contender that could use a significant piece to put them over the top, they're a very good team that still has holes and a recent history of wasting away opportunities.

I just wish this roster gave me some faith that any meaningful investment would be worth it. So for me, the less Treliving does today the better.
My thoughts exactly!

Maple Leafs Showing Interest In Several Bottom-Six Forwards

March 7, 2025 at 7:41 am CDT |

With their cap space relatively limited (though likely to grow once Ryan Reaves is off the roster either via waivers or AHL assignment), the Maple Leafs appear to be looking at some lower-cost options up front. David Pagnotta of The Fourth Period reports (Twitter link) that among the bottom-six players Toronto is looking at are Kraken winger Brandon Tanev and Sharks forward Luke Kunin. Meanwhile, Pierre LeBrun of TSN and The Athletic adds (Twitter link) that they’re also in the mix for Flyers center Scott Laughton.

interesting comparison but Kadri had over 100 PIMs in his 2nd season with London - Cowan's about 60% of that. Kadri's offensive playoff numbers also blow Cowan out of the water.

Cowan's playoff run last year crushed anything Kadri did in junior.

I don't think Cowan will be better than Kadri, I'm just suggesting we need to hang on to players that are pests that can also play at a high level.

Colorado could trade Rantanen
Florida could trade Weegar, Huberdeau
Tampa could trade Sergachev, McDonagh

yet we don't trade any of the big 4 while making out of the 1st round once and apparently Knies is also part of untouchables when we are clearly weak on defense :help:

Yah thanks - misread his statline. I agree on outlook, and don't think Cowan is as gritty as Kadri, but our cupboard is bare other than the obvious ones.

Not to make this a Tre vs Dubas thing, but Treliving is absolutely sleeping in the bed he made.

Leafs are capped out because of the bad contracts he gave out. 10 million on just Kampf, Reaves, Beniot, Domi and Dewar.

You never saw that from Kyle with the players outside of the core.
The thing that's annoying is... part of Domi's value was what he did with Matthews towards the end of the year... we sign him and don't play him with Matthews............

Ahh yes you're right - misread his statline. Very comparable in his second year. I still don't see a direct comparable to Kadri's level of agitation however.
You're right, he isn't. I like Cowan a lot, pretty much everything you hear about his attitude is the right thing... and he's a 19 year old on by far and away the best team in the entire country. I'm not sure anyone should have a 65 game point streak or whatever it was, but he should be laying waste to the OHL and he's fourth on his team in scoring (though I think third in PPG). He's not exactly Nazem on either side of that coin.

It isn't to say he's not a good prospect, but he's not Naz.

And refuse to make any sort of chances in the last 2 off-seasons.

Blaming anyone but the current GM is asinine.

And that's probably why Kyle has never seen any success in the NHL.
