I'm happy he is not spending draft capital on players we don't need like last year... he collected all his #6D and 13th forwards before the season started.

Either make a move that actually improves the team or don't... so far I like the strategy.

I don’t. Just pointing out how stupid the prices are for centres and that if Tavares was on the market the Leafs could have gotten something stupid for him.

The prices are always stupid during trade deadline. GM's never learn.

We wasted assets in the last several years picking up old players who we thought provided grit and experience and it never helped us win anything.

Very clearly he is going to acquire depth players. I think the only question is whether the centre he acquires is of the depth variety or of the impactfaul variety. I think it will be the latter.

It would actually be smart to sell…I will say this, the Shanaplan has been a disaster. Marner holds all the cards. Sure stand pat but now Mitch knows he has all the leverage. The Leafs are literally like 3 years away from possibly having to blow this thing up. The playoffs was always going to be a huge sign on the future of this core group. Looks like Treliving doesn’t trust it enough to pay the price. If we get another first round elimination Shanny has to go though. Enough is enough. And if Shanny goes what about Treliving? You want this ass clown running a rebuild? Brad doesn’t even have the balls to complete a Luke Kunin trade for piss sake. All we hear is “we’re looking to get better” ok but how? Like what’s the plan with this organization.
You don’t change a team at the deadline especially at the prices being asked with so few sellers. The Leafs have few assets to trade and little cap space (thanks to Dubas)and quite frankly nothing they do now will get them past Tampa or Florida. The time for big changes will be this off season.

if the Leafs do anything, I hope they go cheap (and unexpected, none of the rumored names) or Young! If we are going to give up something 'good' i'd only want to do it for a piece that can play with our core and potentially beyond them. i.e. Brandt Clarke type player maybe try to snag a young guy that hasnt established himself like LA's Helenius (6'6" giant) to drop in the bottom 6 rather than a small Dewar

Depth is fine... last year we traded 6 picks and Dewar was the best player.

I am happy he is not doing that.

If we can upgrade at a position for a fair price, go for it.

And the eye test.

Trading him still stings. Good grief.
Even if they were hellbent on trading him, fair enough.

But I don't think I could've thought of two players that were of less use to what we needed than Kerplunk and Barrie.

It sounds like Kunin will be this year's version of Dewar, but he won't be the main acquisition today.

This is how I feel. If the sabres have Peterka available. See what they would want from you if you can make it work.

The trading assets for Schenn is the right idea, as in we are getting a player for the next 2-3 years but wrong player.

As Brad Treliving continues to circle around the Flyers with Scott Laughton and Rasmus Ristolainen, reports have emerged that they have also been quietly keeping tabs on another Flyers player.
According to the Daily Faceoff's Anthony Di Marco, the Leafs have quietly checked in on the availability of 24-year-old left-shot defenseman Egor Zamula.
Zamula is a big, 6'3, 200-pound blueliner that has another year left on his current contract at a very reasonable $1.7M.

I'll stick with my guess of Schenn for Minten, a first and another middling pick, with some salary retention by St. Louis or a third team.

Wasn't the point of hiring Berube and his defensive scheme with better goal tending and better defenceman the supposed recipe for success in up coming playoffs?

But now its doom and gloom and because no trades are made ....we might as well pack our bags and give up playing Florida or Tampa?

Dont get me wrong as Im not a big fan of Berube system but shouldnt he get at least one crack at a playoff series with the leafs?

Just find it funny because no deals are done.....its doom and gloom.

This is the best time to go for it.

No argument there, but are they really a serious Cup threat? Just because they may not get any better than they are now shouldn't convince anyone that they're good enough to warrant mortgaging what little they have left of their prospect pool.

And that's simply what I'm arguing: Instead of this group deciding that last season's loss to the Bruins was the last straw and coming out this year like a team that simply will not accept losing anymore we've seen more of the same.

A very good team, but not notably better despite adding Tanev, Stolarz and OEL (the first two in particular have been oustanding). Matthews has been off all year, their special teams are nothing special, the bottom 6 has not produced consistently.

So they're not a legit contender that could use a significant piece to put them over the top, they're a very good team that still has holes and a recent history of wasting away opportunities.

I just wish this roster gave me some faith that any meaningful investment would be worth it. So for me, the less Treliving does today the better.
