I'd like that.

I really only want us to go after Donato, Tanev and Murphy.

Although I think a Donato and Murphy package would cost an absolute fortune right now.
Hence why I would go for the Ole/Tanev package instead.

Donato on a solo trade as well as Kunin.

What my rationale is, why over spend on a higher end 3rd line center when you can upgrade both 3rd line and 4th line C positions for around the same price. They would be better then Domi and Kampf!!!!

Tavares probably gets a HAUL and a half if they traded him now.

Leafs should explore selling some guys like Domi/Benoit/Jarnkrok/Robertson/Kampf/Timmins then using that capital to add.

But of course we know that this front office does not get creative.
Seen this a few times about trading Tavares

Does he not have a NMC just like Marner? They wont waive so how you planning on trading him?

I'm hoping the small decline we've seen in JT the last 10-15 games gives us pause in that rumoured $7M / yr contract. If we're going based only on outcomes, then it has.
I'm really hoping we can work it down to 5-5.5. It's stupid but giving him 5-5.5 compared to 7, means we could potentially add a Tanev for the 4th line at 1.5m which would help the team

Just get Schenn from Pitt for Niemela or one of his former picks. If Blues want to cap dump his brother while he still has some value then they shouldn't be asking for much imo. Otherwise, I'm not paying much for the privilege of overpaying Brayden into his pre-retirement years.

Schenn is slow but rara we did something, we got skin in the game and all that.

Only thing I'll say is Cowan is the only untouchable - you don't trade guaranteed fan favourites, and we really haven't had a skill pest type of player like this(drafted) since Kadri.

Everything else should be on the table.

East is WIDE open man.

I don’t want to pay the stupid prices, and have no interest in either Schenn, nor Risto or Laughton.

At centre interested in Krebs, Cates, or Donato.

At forward Kunin or Tanev for cheap (Tanev will sign here as a UFA).

On RHD
Murphy
Kesselring

Other than that, I’m waiting for UFA and keeping our prospects and picks.

We aren’t winning this year, so need to pretend otherwise and blow our brains out in the process.

Need to be smart here and this marketplace is the exact opposite of being smart.

Is it though?

I only see both Florida teams (as is usually the case) and Washington being the teams to possibly come out of the East. Who else is there?

People don’t think. It’s so strange

Tavares is not getting traded ever before his contract ends

Imagine asking him. Hey we stripped you over your C. Now we want you to agree to be traded away after 7 years of commitment to our team.

I feel like people are down on Cowan after the WJC and I think it's short-sighted.

He's an annoying little shit that can produce. We could use a guy like that. Not interested in trading him before I see how he does on the Marlies.

This seller's market is not helping a GM like Treliving who isn't known for taking a swing unless Tyler Toffoli is available. I wouldn't want to pay the prices we've seen for a guy like Schenn, even though I'd like him for the right price with salary retained.

I want to see some action for us, too many teams are getting better and we're just very ho-hum about the thing, but I also can't wrap my head around what's flying around for a rental either.

I don’t. Just pointing out how stupid the prices are for centres and that if Tavares was on the market the Leafs could have gotten something stupid for him.

I would preface it with reminding him that we paid him so much money that a CRA employee watched him play and went “nah there’s no way this contract is for services rendered”.

I think / hope that given the high prices we're seeing on the trade market, that Tre's best strategy is to wait till close to the deadline and see if a seller or two become more motivated. Worst case scenario is he repeats a Foligno like deal.

That's the dilemma for the GM right?

Do you just simply make a trade that you have to overpay on to appease the fans? Or do you put the organization's best interests first?

Can't disagree.

This off-season is probably the worst time to do the deed. Naturally, that seems to be the direction we are headed in.
It's the lesser of two evils.

If Marner struggles in the playoffs again and he gets re-signed for like $14 million per year or something there's no reason to take the team seriously going forward.
Hah.

Give a crap can’t be imported at the deadline. We’ve tried it before and if it’s not already in the room it won’t come from one mercenary. It feels so artificial and tacked on whenever we’ve tried it in the past.

Gotta keep trying. The solution is to blow it up or keep trying. They clearly chose their path by not doing anything in the summer.

The loser mentality of we're not good enough, so might as well just sit on our hands... yeah that's a great strategy.

interesting comparison but Kadri had over 100 PIMs in his 2nd season with London - Cowan's about 60% of that. Kadri's offensive playoff numbers also blow Cowan out of the water.
