I'm down for Kunin and Tanev. Anything so that we hopefully swap out Kampf and whatever else we've been toileting on the bottom line.

We're going to manage to swap one of the big 3 prospects for Grebenkin and call it a win.

2026 1st + Cowan + Danford + Grebenkin for Schenn

I'd be sick. Only way I would ever recover is if we went to the final 4 teams at least
If we do that trade we're still likely out in the 2nd round against Florida or Tampa, unless of course we don't win the division and in which case Florida or Tampa eliminates us in the 1st round.

Sucks to be stuck with a core that has no clue on how to win, except when it comes to the contract negotiation table

I am pretty sure Treliving could care less what a bunch of people on forums say about him lol
I'm going to guess there are people in hockey who think that if the dude's dad wasn't a Billionaire, he likely wouldn't have a job in hockey, particularly as high as GM.

I mean, he got the Leafs gig based on his family knowing the Tanenbaums

Whether he cares or not is up to him. But frankly, he's a mediocre manager on a good day.

That frugality could be the reason the Leafs don’t get a cup

Oh, that's not it.

All you need to do is look at the boxscores from all the game 7s this core has played to understand why they haven't won. There's a whole lot of zeroes from the players that MLSE have spent the bulk of the team's cap on.

And under Dubas nobody could ever accuse him of being frugal when it came to making deadline deals to try and help this team win. Thankfully, under Treliving we've seen a more measured, arguably smarter approach.

Treliving gets that TDL is not the time to fill holes in your roster (like Dubas did) but to add complimentary pieces to a legit contender. Treliving past Summer went a long way to address real needs on this team outside the bottom 6. And unfortunately this season the Leafs are not a serious Cup threat. Too many "meh" numbers and not enough from this team to suggest they really want it this year.

TB & Florida can be confident making big deals even though they're roughly in the same place with similar concerns than Toronto because they both have a recent history of being winners. Toronto does not.

The leafs will probably do something today. We also do have the assets to be on the bigger names.

My thing is this though, if Brad considers these prices to rich to add to the core. because he doesn't think they could win it all.... Why wasn't more done this offseason to see if they could change it? Why didn't you ask and see if Marner would waive or Tavares or Rielly etc
Because we didn't have the cap space.

If they were confident they would re-sign Marner and Tavares (which gross to run it back again), it would make sense to wait for the offseason to make any major moves and try to keep Cowan and Minten for next season.

I think the 2026 first and Danford are available for a top 4 RD. In that situation, the roster would have Knies, Robertson, Cowan, Minten all under 24 years old up front. That's pretty good for depth.

I'd prefer that than moving all of that for Risto who is immediately a buyout candidate

No I completely agree and if anything we should sell off some spare pieces to take advantage of the prices right now and use them in the summer. I can just already see where this narrative is going and I have no interest in reading through a summer of “Brad needs another 2 years minimum, Dumbas left him literally 0 assets to spend this deadline so it’s ok that we lost”

This is fair.

How today will pan out.

Fans: Brad do something
Brad: Guys, these prices are insane.
Fans: Do something
Brad: Guys, Brock Nelson just went for 2 x 1sts and a 3rd. He's a rental.
Fans: Do something ffs. Anything

Brad does something.

Fans: f*** off Brad. That's terrible.

That frugality could be the reason the Leafs don’t get a cup. I hope Tre is of a different mindset.

Could the leafs win a cup and put them selves over the top by adding a force down the middle in Brayden Schenn? Yes.

Is this the best chance to go for it? Absolutely imo

Most of these prospects won’t work out anyways

Time to go for it is now!!
I really don't see how B Schenn moves the needle to the point it guarantees us to get by the first two rounds.

I still think the biggest move we can make is letting JT walk in the offseason and free up both a ton of cap space but drastically improve the teams speed. You don't need to pay that much for a faceoff specialist

Botton six adds would be fine.

We need a 3-4 D imo if they are serious.

At the end of the day, if Matthews, Marner, Nylander, Tavares, Rielly and one of the goalies are not at their best, this team does not have a chance.

So, Tre can plug as many holes as he can, it still comes down to the top guys being the top guys.

We have also had issues with secondary scoring... it isn't up to 5 players to carry a team.

Nick Paul killed us one year, that never happens for us.

Kucherov has 0 points in game 7s, yet his team wins a lot of them.

Despise is a strong word. I certainly disagree with many of his decisions.
Despise is a more polite word than I originally wanted to post.

We had our best chance to win something since around 2002 and Dubas and Shanahan blew it. They blew it out of ego, shortsightedness and a lack of fortitude. This right now is just trying to hang on but the real damage has long since already been done.
