The time for moves like that was last year when we had the option to move Marner or Nylander.

Letting Tavares and Marner walk for nothing and attempting to replace them in free agency...well it would certainly be an interesting endeavour.

The time for that has been any point over the last 5 years.

I encourage everyone here to look at the playoff scoring leaders for the last 15 years. You see many multiple Cup winners and you will also see the guys near the top of the playoff scoring list are the top dogs you would think. These big salaried stars are paid to perform and they deliver when it matters.

We're going to manage to swap one of the big 3 prospects for Grebenkin and call it a win.

That frugality could be the reason the Leafs don’t get a cup. I hope Tre is of a different mindset.

Could the leafs win a cup and put them selves over the top by adding a force down the middle in Brayden Schenn? Yes.

Is this the best chance to go for it? Absolutely imo

I can't see them not doing anything, not with Shanahan's legacy and reputation in the balance.

Also, if Treliving wants to prove he's more than a nepo baby who keeps falling upwards, then doing nothing after a quite uneventful tenure so far isn't really his best move either.

Not ruining a team and saddling them with crippling contracts would be the best thing Tre could do to repair his image. Just go 5 years without spending a 1st to get rid of Monahan so you can sign Kadri until he’s 95 and then watch Montreal get a 1st for Monahan a few months later, and there will be an AGM job waiting for you in Edmonton or wherever else our sloppy seconds usually end up.
