I can't see them not doing anything, not with Shanahan's legacy and reputation in the balance.

Also, if Treliving wants to prove he's more than a nepo baby who keeps falling upwards, then doing nothing after a quite uneventful tenure so far isn't really his best move either.
I am pretty sure Treliving could care less what a bunch of people on forums say about him lol

The leafs will probably do something today. We also do have the assets to be on the bigger names.

My thing is this though, if Brad considers these prices to rich to add to the core. because he doesn't think they could win it all.... Why wasn't more done this offseason to see if they could change it? Why didn't you ask and see if Marner would waive or Tavares or Rielly etc

Only hours left for Tre to do something stupid, hold fast this team isn’t going deep in the playoffs…….

Mayfields game has fallen off has it not? I heard he’s been relegated to 7th dman and only played just over 9 minutes last game. Not sure the reasoning or if it’s true.

if we are trading a first + any prospect for Schenn. Assuming it's one of the big ones. It should be Minten as he would be blocked for the next 2-3 years unless you are putting him at 4c or 2c and moving Tavares to the wing.

Price on Schenn seems to have come down. I would a 1st and Robertson if we got retention. Nothing more. If there is no deal there, that's fine.
If they are acquiring Schenn and planning on re-signing Tavares they may as well trade Minten. In that trade or another.
No room for Minten to be the 3C if you are bringing in a guy to do it for 3 more years after this.

All the big trades other than Rantanen have been 2026/27 1sts (which we have) and prospects at Cowan’s tier or lower. There’s nothing stopping us from paying those prices.

If they were confident they would re-sign Marner and Tavares (which gross to run it back again), it would make sense to wait for the offseason to make any major moves and try to keep Cowan and Minten for next season.

I think the 2026 first and Danford are available for a top 4 RD. In that situation, the roster would have Knies, Robertson, Cowan, Minten all under 24 years old up front. That's pretty good for depth.

I'd prefer that than moving all of that for Risto who is immediately a buyout candidate

Benoit’s skillset is that of a 6th/7th d man. He’s not a unicorn.

I like the guy personally but he’s the most replaceable player along with Timmins.
I have no qualms about dropping him but if I'm keeping one and moving the other, it's timmins out for me

If all we walk away from this TDL is 2 of Kunin, Tanev, and Luke Schenn (or another depth RD), and we manage to do so while holding onto Cowan, Danford, and Minten, to me its a win. That's what I'm measuring Tre by now - his ability to find value even in a seller's market.

I think the handling of the core is above his paygrade.
