Ultimately, the loss against Vegas may be the best outcome for this franchise.

As Marner said "this is a wake up call". Indeed. Perhaps, maybe, possibly, amazingly now MLSE and Bran Tre understand what they have. A core that will never compete against stronger, heavier more committed teams.

It's actually amazing to me that what I could obviously even before the Habs series but certainly during and after never forced changed. I was a long person in the wilderness when I predicted the Leafs would lose to Columbus and that was before the Habs series.

The fact is that Leafs ownership and it's fans have represented the definition of insanity for a long time.
It is quite the eye-opener that a bunch of us could see, after the Columbus series, that this is just not going to work, yet a multi-billion dollar organization with hundreds of employees couldn't.

Since that series loss, instead of pivoting and taking action, they've just allowed it to cascade and mostly bad decisions have followed. Allowing the wrong guys to walk, making really stupid trades and refusing to actually allow themselves to understand the underlying issues.

It's quite mind-blowing truth be told.

Nah, they’ve just been really unlucky every one of those playoff series, the luck is bound to turn around at some point…..

I'd be interested in geekie but no Carlo. We need an offensive defenceman
I disagree, in the playoffs defense is offence. There is no way this d core cannot use another solid big bodied defensive first dman. Remember players like OEL, Reilly and even McCabe for that matter can chip in offensively if paired with the correct partners.

If we can acquire that dman or two to upgrade on the playing time being given to Benoit, Timmons or Myers. This team is much better off then acquiring a offensive dman.

Why over pay when they are not a legit contender based on Matthews being a shell of his former self, Reilly being a slug and their lack of depth on defence.

This summer is the first time Tre has the huge cap room to do some big things. Over $30 million in cap space to retool

I look at this as the summer when Florida traded for Tkachuk. They will make big moves

The time for moves like that was last year when we had the option to move Marner or Nylander.

Letting Tavares and Marner walk for nothing and attempting to replace them in free agency...well it would certainly be an interesting endeavour.

Yes I agree with this. Perfect timing. And also Matthews as the captain saying after the loss ‘maybe we expected an easier night’

He’s a loser
I couldn't believe he said that, so I went back and listened to the interview. All that is wrong with this core summed up in that quote. In what world would a player think it was going to be an "easy" night against Vegas? Just saying that, even if not true, speaks volumes about this captain having the necessary qualities to lead this team in the playoffs.

Scoring has been a problem for this team in the playoffs, not defence

prices r high
lets see what brad gonna do
likely gonna be forced due to FL Tampa deals

There is nothing to force.

We have a #1D lol in Rielly that is playing like he wants to be bought out and retire or fleece a second team and retire after being bought out again.

Point. We ain't winning shit with Morgan Reilly the way he is.

Some minor smoke out there about the Leafs and Zamula. He's an awesome bottom pair LD, who only plays LD. That being said - trading for him would be ridiculously stupid because they already have 3 better LHD that should all be playing on the left side.

I kinda hope we don't really do much, the prices floated around (of course everything Leafs is gonna be cooked for clicks) far outway what would likely be brought in. Tanev and Stolarz are the biggest additions we could have made over previous years and maybe Matthews will decide to look like a superstar again soon. My bet is a 6th defenseman and another bottom line forward.
I can't see them not doing anything, not with Shanahan's legacy and reputation in the balance.

Also, if Treliving wants to prove he's more than a nepo baby who keeps falling upwards, then doing nothing after a quite uneventful tenure so far isn't really his best move either.
