Are Nelson and Coyle rentals?

We were his first choice, he could have pushed to go to Minnesota now if he really wanted to, but he didn't.

If the rest of this year and playoffs goes like the first game. I bet they offer 6 years taking him to 40 trying to get the AAV to 6M. We already know he wants 5 years.

Three years from now good 3rd line centers are going to cost 6M.
Do we know he wants 5 years, or just more than the 3 he was offered from Isles (3×7.5)?

Could be. Also, 4 is a number between 3 and 5 :sarcasm:

If Landeskog doesn't return (permanently) I could see them trying to go shorter like that, but if he does they'll probably go longer for a lowe AAV.
Nelson will be 34 at the start of the regular season. You would think 4yrs, maybe 5 tops is the limit. That last contract often tails off in AAV but his stats suggest he is due for some sort of raise from his current $6M. If I pencil in Nelson at 7.75M, Drouin at 4.25M and Malinski at 1.65M, you still have ~2M left to get a 13F and 6/7D.

Landy is monopoly money to me.

It does feel high to go over 6m for a 34yo. Maybe 2x7.5 I could tolerate, but I'd work on something more like 4x6. Yeah the cap has gone up but you still have to say sorry the market isn't there to give you a big raise for your 37 and beyond years. If you get him at 6, which still keeps him getting what he was in his more valuable years, then you are at a wash with the CM cap and Landy then drives what you do with Colton and Wood.
