Not understanding the Foligno love. He's had 3 straight season at 35 points or less and is on a 32 point, 82 game pace again this year.

At this point his production is probably less than that of what Wayne Simmonds would have done had he stayed healthy, and you're going to overpay Columbus to get him due to his value from a leadership perspective.

JMO, but it doesn't make sense. Toronto didn't lose to Columbus last year because they were lacking Nick Foligno's... They lost because they got goalied by the Columbus tandem, their depth of scoring dried up and Anderson got outplayed routinely.
Foligno takes on more defensive responsibility in Columbus than Simmonds does here, he's better defensively and of those 35 points seasons on a defensive minded team, almost all of it is completely at even strength. Leafs wouldn't be bringing him in for his point totals, he brings a lot more than that. What he brings is what the Leafs can benefit from, they don't really need another creative soft puck distributing/carrier forward, they need personnel to compliment those players with some truculence.

Kind of like the Raptors need this year of a big center that can eat minutes & get rebounds, they didn't need another small guard/ball carrier. Sure basketball has way more importance on specific personnel but there are still similarities in the methodology, and the Raptors case is an extremely obvious example.

Yeah, I really like Laughton, but not sure if we can get him at a fair price. I'd still take Foligno or Bennett over Engvall though. I just don't really rate Engvall that high.

Engvall taken 184 faceoffs this year, FO% is 43.8%. Also, 27 hits this year.

Engvall with a mean streak would have been such a beast of a player. A modern-day Power forward, who has Size, Speed and Decent Hands.

Absolutely sucks he shy's away from the Physical part of the game

He needs 18-19 minutes to put up those totals when most other people putting up those kinds of totals do it in 14-15 minutes (and a lot of them also do so with less PP time and similar amounts of PK time). His ES PTS/60 would be the worst out of everyone in our top 12, including Engvall and Mikheyev who play in an even more defensive role than he does.

He may have value, but it is not nearly as much as people say it is.

Foligno isn't coming to Toronto to play on their power play.

He also plays for Jon Tortorella in Columbus, that's a very different situation than with Keefe's on the Leafs & not really a fair comparison. His situation is much closer to that of the Islanders.

Patrick Laine has a lower even strength points per 60 than all of these players despite being Patrick Laine & having much more offensive opportunity, that says something about the situation in Columbus.

that gallagher injury should force Bergevin to go all in. his window is now. not only because a number of his best players of his are old, but also because a number of his best players are probably leaving in free agency this year.
also because Bergevin will be gone as well lol. Nothing to lose

If leafs can get Foligno and Hall I wouldn't be opposed to that.

Hall-Matthews-Marner
Gally-JT-Nylander
Hyman-Foligno-Soup
Simmonds-Engval-Spezza

That 3rd line will drive top line NUTS. Match it up and let the other according lines feast. This is assuming we trade kerfoot.

Do the Leafs even need to make a move or splash?

I really don't see any deadline addition helping us to a degree where we can say that it was worth trading a 1st round pick or prospect.

Roll with what we have, we had depth on D with Sandin/Liljegren and we have Robertson as well. Sure they're rookies, but they are top talents.

If we can land Hall we can insert Sandin/Lili. If we land a D man, we can insert Robertson. I’m not sure if we can have all though. Might not be enough roster space

Elliotte said Freddy won't be back by the deadline. I think we could have guessed that.

So much potential as a defensive shutdown center, how many 6'5" 220lb+ forwards are there that can skate like Pierre Engvall? One: Pierre Engvall
Has there ever been a guy that big with wheels like him? Kreider is 6'3" so he doesn't make the cut.

Hopefully he continues to develop and becomes more aggressive like Matthews has.

I think the Leafs end up with Iafallo now. Originally thought Palmieri would be the guy.
