What?

This is the year we should go all in. An hfboards asterisk around the Cup winner (which will only be in place if it's the Leafs) will not take away from my enjoyment of it. The NHL officially recognized the season, I don't care what anyone else thinks.

Yep.

I don't see anyone putting an asterisk on Tampa's cup last season.

This principle of renting a player from a team, and trading him back after the playoffs is interesting. I don't know the appetite of other teams to do such a thing, but imagine adding Ryan O'Reilly as a 3C for the balance of the season? The challenge of course being the cap issue involved with that.

But, if you traded Andersen and Kerfoot to St. Louis, plus picks to make the deal for O'Reilly...

Then traded for Ullmark at 50%, and Foligno with 50% withheld twice, it actually fits the cap.

Foligno Matthews Marner
Galchenyuk Tavares Nylander
Hyman O'Reilly Mikheyev
Thornton/Engvall Spezza Simmonds

It seems like Andersen’s condition is holding up any potential trade. I recall them saying we’ll get another update this week right? Gotta be soon, only 6 days left now.

I’m still holding onto hope he needs a ‘minor procedure’ where he ends up on Robidas island for the rest of the year and we trade for an adequate backup like Ullmark or even Reims to back up Campbell and play 30-50% of the remaining games to keep him fresh

I think it's the selling teams holding tight to see if they can get better offers.

Given that all of the games are divisional match ups, and 4-point games, a lot can happen within a week for these fringe playoffs teams.

Most deals will probably happen on deadline day but I also bet it will be a quieter deadline since the fringe teams can easily make a run in this format with a winning streak. Meaning less sellers.

I'm struggling to understand the Kempe rumours - he's kind of a perfect fit tbh, but i have no idea why LA would be trading him at this point?

I don't get it either but I won't complain.

Perhaps they're looking to bolster their blue line in more of a hockey trade. A younger potential top-4 d-man (who is in the NHL now) for Kempe. Since LA has some nice forward pieces and want to bolster the blue line?

Crouse would fit really nicely in the Leafs line up on any line since his physicality and size brings some different elements to what the Leafs currently have. Additionally, the Leafs have a lot of scoring and skill, and could almost insulate Crouse from having to drive a line.

He could really break out here but he could also only find himself has a 4th line energy player.

Not worth a high price at all.

Maybe Dubas has another deal lined up as well.

A deal around Dermott for Kempe and then Dubas also trades a pick for Oleksiak?

i wonder if it has something to do with the expansion draft. but even then i'd be surprised if kempe wouldn't easily make their "protect" list.

Could be. His cap hit is a bargain and a team could get two playoff runs out of him now. LA are going to have to dish some contracts out in the next few years so once it comes time to renew Kempe his money may not fit?

I think he's only moved if LA receive an overpay

He makes a bit less than Hyman too. Not saying he is a replacement but could be insurance if Hyman prices himself out (which I don't see happening)

Does anyone in Chicago care that their 2013 cup was a lockout season either? Nope.. or New Jersey in 95?
If we get a forward who comes out? I have a hard time believing Thornton sits. Engvall is a pretty good PKer.
I think you rotate Jumbo & Simmonds maybe even Spezza too in the name of load management.
