I never believe in the term untouchable. There have been many untouchable players moved in the past. When teams get desperate they can do something that might surprise you. Sarnia last year moved a kid that everyone thought would never move .

Also considering he might end up closer to home would likely mean his NTC is not an issue.

Now I see the odds low as well but they are not a full on zero.

The Greyhounds didn’t just draft and sign Brady Martin. They added someone to their coaching staff who is a direct line to Brady( his former coach lol). They didn’t do this just to trade him at the deadline.

I believe untouchable is warranted in this situation

Problem is that they had to recruit him to come and play. And credit to them for doing a good job of it. But that's going to look really bad for future recruiting if they move him after all that work.

Maybe that was part of the recruitment offer? You get to move in January. Now I'm sure after being there for a few months he is likely happy he went there so even though I won't use the word untouchable I don't see him moved.

like HFP said, they literally hired a coach to coax Martin here... hard to imagine you make that hire to get a half a season from a prospect... ;)

He's going to have a NTC, if he gets moved, its because he was ok getting moved.

If Porter Martone wasn’t untouchable sorry I can’t see the same tag on Martin based off of that alone.

Yes. That would be the case.

I meant going forward if they have to recruit another first/second rounder and they tell them "we really want to build around you etc" are they going to buy it? The soo generally does a good job of getting guys to show up. I don't think they want to mess with that.

i do agree with what you’re saying especially in the Soo case. But i feel like that’s something a lot of teams go through with their first round picks. they sign and the team views them as a long term piece but you get to the deadline and an opportunity arises and in this case Owen Beck +.

Now usually those teams don’t jump from top 3 pick to top 2 in the league in one season but if that’s what it takes to get a deal done, then some tough decisions will have to be made.

If i have to guess, i do not believe that Brady Martin will not be traded but the possibility can never truly be zero

Yes most first rounders on contenders know they are possible trade bait come January. Most first rounders don't have to be recruited though. They are ready to show up to their teams from the get go. Like if Martin just signed right away. no issues. No extra effort needed. Then it's just business as normal. If you have to put in extra effort to get a player to sign above what is standard, it's generally not good to deal them in their first year.

I agree though, don't think he's moved. They have other ways to get deals done.

Well after yesterday's move it will be interesting to see what other deals will start to look like?

Have to think Kitchener, London and Saginaw are all going to make some form of movement soon? Could we see Owen Sound continue to play in the trade pool early? Who in the east will be the big buyers this deadline? Certainly all these questions will be continuing to bubble up in fans minds in the next 7 days.

Anybody on this forum agree that trading Porter Martone was a good move though???
I see that as a major blunder and I think most would agree.
Obviously now with the benefit of hindsight but also at the time.. Soo isn't going to make that move...

Yes it was a good move. How they finished the season doesn't determine if it was a good idea or not. Sarnia finally had a chance to make a good title run. They gave it their best effort. Nothing is guaranteed but that doesn't mean you don't try.

Maybe Letang isn't the one to get them over the hump. Maybe it'll be the next guy.
