Keep Domi on LTIR
Sign Carlson + Trouba

Obviously we might have to add for some of these trades to work, but this is who id be targeting if were retooling.

We would have more then enough cap space to make this plausible, especially if Domi is out for the season.
Carlsson ain’t coming here. Trouba may be a decent fit. Don’t think we are getting McBain out of Utah without giving up more, and I really don’t think that’s enough for Cuylle.

If he was right handed or had good underlying numbers, or some big upside swing ability then yeah sure ok... but I don't think people understand how awful he's been.
The main issue for me, Dakota, is his speed

But with Frederic is it Edmonton?

The competition isn't great, but you can see why Edm had to pay. $3.8 in growing cap isn't as bad as it was.

Offence is dry here, but some interesting puck carrying stats that should make him a good middle 3rd line at least.

But a 3rd C or puck hound for the top 6 is where the most amount of upside would be if he could do it.

Joshua is more or less the same type of forward. One is faster, the other has better production.

He looked pretty strong years ago and has regressed into a pretty average to bad grinder that can't produce. Never came away impressed watching him either. Can he bounce back? Is it an Edmonton problem? Possible sure... anything is possible.

I'm not willing to pick up his contract until 2033 to find out, even for free, and I'd be shocked if he was on our radar. If this guy was on the Leafs, I can promise you we'd be talking about buyout.

Frederic was a pretty quality third liner with Boston. Edmonton doesn't play their bottom six enough, and they all seem to end up losing their offensive touch. Frederic plays RW primarily, has size, plays hard and physical, good speed, and put up 30 and 41 points with Boston. That's the type of reclamation project that we will be looking at. I don't know if there is more to the story that prevents a bounce back, but I always look at Edmonton's depth, and blame the team more than the players.
His NHL edge numbers (shot speed, skating speed) haven't moved much. Usually that will reveal a physical injury that's hampering his play like we've seen with Matthews shot speed. There has to be a reason for the precipitous drop but I don't understand what it is. He was an analytics darling in those 2 Boston years too and that has fallen off a cliff.

His underlying numbers in 24-25 were pretty bad. The drop off started before he arrived in Edmonton.

Haven't the Leafs been linked to Frederic on a few occasions?

Maybe our scouting staff just really likes the player.

Hellebuyck will want to be on a American team full stop.

We all need to pump the brakes on this Canada-America nonsense. Most American teams and cities are not popular destinations. Even tax free Southern living is not universally popular. There is no NHL club team equivalent to Team USA superfriends.

What it looks like to me is a tampering racket that is mostly used by Bill Zito in Florida, with a mouthpiece like Matthew Tkachuk and Brad Marchand spreading pessimism everywhere to destabilize markets and recruit mostly Team USA super friends. Kelly McCrimmon and friends in Vegas run the same shit show out west, brain draining teams of talent. Bill Guerin is trying to make Minnesota a thing but it comes across like the Blue Jays in a Shohei pursuit.

Didn't listen to the segment, but this screams Kyper bullshit.

How does somebody get upset about this media response?

"I’ll start by saying that in my experience with Auston in Arizona — I was the GM there when he was coming up, before he was drafted even — and from watching him live, you see his passion for the game and the quality of player and person he is. I was very fortunate to get to know his dad, Brian, and his mom, Ema, and his sisters, family, and agent. You get a really good perspective on who Auston is and the type of people he surrounds himself with."

Im sure he at least met Auston's family once and even if he didn't, that's 100% a fair media trained response to a media question asking about Matthew's future.
I guess he was supposed to quantify the number of times he met them? That would've made everyone happy?

Simmons said it himself, the column he wrote following Chaykas intro where Simmons said 20 GMs said he's a sleezeball....set records for readers of a column for the Toronto Sun or whatever paper he writes for. So reporters have motive to stir the pot. Which is a recipe for this kind of crap.

It's buying low certainly, and the game in can he recover the Boston for. But let's say they move Nurse, then it's Frederic + 2nd for Rielly, if Babcock wants to reunite. Or even Carlo, considering they were after him at the deadline. :dunno:

There's buying low and then there's buying negative value. That contract is not "low". I really don't see the upside but maybe it makes sense by swapping out players and contracts...I guess?

Might as well go all in on Nurse with Frederic. Big dudes that were good at some point signed for eternity. Tack on Bob signed until he's 70.

This goes into a bit. Shooting% down 4% from 10 to 6%

There's likely more involved.

Kyper's been really off lately. He has a lot of counterintuitive bad takes, mainly centered on Marner deference. You can tell he just wants to go off but keeps reeling it back to try and sound reasonable.

LeBrun: 'Another team said to me that the Leafs are in on all kinds of things' - TSN 1050 Toronto

June 22, 2026 at 7:54 PM EDT

Bryan Hayes, Jeff O'Neill and Jonas Siegel are joined by TSN Hockey Insider Pierre LeBrun to discuss the likelihood of Auston Matthews still being a Maple Leaf on Opening Night, the different moves Toronto can potentially still make and what the Leafs are looking for in a potential Matthew Knies trade.
This cant be true.... Simmons said nobody would work with the slimeball Chayka.
