GDT: Trade and Free agent Rumours thread | Chayka off-season edition

Count me in the group that doesn't understand the appeal of Bob.

I respect his pedigree and the goalie he is....but that age and with the Term/AAV....should we really be using our cap-space on this?

Not to mention the two prospects we have in the pipeline
Think of it as a bridge for 2-3 years while Hildeby and/or AA get more playing time in the NHL.

I’m ITCHING for some more Leafs trades.

Go check what Belfour did with the Leafs at that age.
Thats still just one guy and at 38 Belfour was coming off a .922 and 2.13 year. 37 year old MAF went from .910 to permanently below .900 two years later. His last decent playoff was at 37. I'm not saying it isn't possible Bob has a good playoff or two left but it seems like a poor bet to assume it.

I don’t see them being able to satisfy Auston Matthews’ open ended pressure on the organization and it’s probably time to just make a smart hockey trade and turn the page. What are they going to be able to do in the next two years, build a juggernaut that surpasses Florida on paper in the east and can carry a declining Matthews to more success than ever before? The guy shows no personal accountability to be a driving change for the positive in Toronto.
Matthews holds all the cards. If he is dealt at some point, it will be at his discretion.

Since he has apparently committed himself to the team next season, that conversation will be put off for at least another year, for better or worse.

Who the hell is tfreddy
Also I heard Friedman was on radio talking up the significance of the week we might have, is that real?

The last Leaf goalie duo to win a cup were 42 and 37 respectively. Both are in the Hall of Fame. Bobs is headed there as well.
We haven't won a cup since the 1960's, things have changed somewhat and thats because Bob was a very good goaltender

He's going to be 38 and he blew last season, that isn't a great bet

You know, I'd be ok removing Stolarz if Bob was the replacement. Why wouldn't you do that?

As long as there was a wink wink deal in place for those last few years.

I don't know if anyone remembers back when Alfredsson was up for renewal with Ottawa, he was wanting a lot of money after taking a discount. Alfredsson had ultimately left but they did tip their hand that they were getting help, they were culminating a trade to bring in Bobby Ryan.

Part of me wonders if they told Raddysh where they're at on some things this off-season for him to say this so confidently publicly.

I just heard CJ say that the Knies trade talks are still very much open. He suggested something like Mctavish. It wouldn't be straight up obviously since his value is lower at this point.

Would Rielly and Knies for OZ and MM work?

Would also signing Tuch make it more palatable?

Just like the JT signing, when you're courting players to come to your team, there's always some form of plan. I am sure they presented him with a few different things they are planning, and he's choosing to believe they will get that done. He's also aware the Leafs will have McKenna by the end of the week.

We just saw Dobes do some great things for the Habs, I question if it's worth getting a vet goalie at all.
Sure, that could theoretically happen with Hildeby or AA, but I would feel a lot better having a bonafide number one veteran to carry the bulk of the load while they continue to develop.

Counting on an injury prone Stolarz and two young goaltenders with less than 30 games of combined NHL experience is incredibly risky for a team that is trying to make the playoffs for the next 2 seasons.

So is giving good money to a 38 year old coming off a .870sv season. How is that less risky?
