GDT: Trade and Free agent Rumours thread | Chayka off-season edition

It is silly, its not like Chayka said hes invited for Christmas dinners regularly at the Matthews household.

Just people trying to make Chaykas life miserable. Clearly there is a small group out to get him.

Might be good for us... Chayka strikes me as the competitive type who will
use it as fuel.

I doubt it is anyone out to get him, more like Shannon making shit up trying to pretend that he is well connected.

Would be great if we can get a late first in this draft or a future one in 2027 or 2028. I would also take a 2nd and 3rd.

If not, i wouldnt be against and extension if he is willing to take something like Murphy's deal as 3rd pairing right shot D and kicking the can down the line in hopes of trading him in a year or 2. i dont want him to walk for nothing.
Or hold onto him until the TDL when teams alway over pay for his type of defenceman. (As we too painfully know)
By then you will know if a Villeneuve or a Danford can step in as a bottom pairing PK guy which is what Carlo is.

I’m not trying to give him the net by himself. But he has developed exactly as you would want and now that he is ready we aren’t going to give him a chance?
Why bother developing goaltenders at all?

Twenty-six games, ffs.

yes because everybody in flolrida was hurt.

when you win back to back cups you get the benifit of the doubt
Hes too old and our defense isnt capable of playing the way Panthers do to reduce shot quality and quantity.

Bobrovsky at 7M x 6 is horrible deal. We already see how poorly the tanev deal is aging and its only been 2 years. 4 more years left and ideally he should be only on the team for 1 more year at best.

Stay away from Bobrovsky, he isnt the right fit.

Target Gustavsson, Binnington, Kuemper, Markstrom, Montombeault instead as they are possible to be able to be a 1A goalie and not have a horrific contract.

Bobrovksy will be likely booted out the NHL next year when he fails epicly. Dont be the team to invest in that failing asset.

Panthers invested at the right time, and got to reap the rewards. They are moving on from bobrovsky because they know he is done, not because they cant make it work and bring him back if they really wanted too

I think what Ottawa did proactively is what we should do to resolve this situation.
Or you trade him next off season to a team with an extension in hand and hopefully a far better season by him and the team. His value is pretty low right now when you consider he can be a top 3 center in the league where teams are tossing around 3 1sts and a 2nd for a player who was only going to one team. He drops a 50 goal season and the Leafs make the play offs his value will be a lot higher. If he has another poor season he still brings you a return similar to what he brings now. Better to be patient.

First, 'expected' anything is a total loser stat.

Second, the team mailed it in/tanked so his numbers last year should be seen as an outlier.

A big reason they finished well out of the playoffs is because of his performance. If he puts up average numbers they are probably not bottom 10.

I don’t see them being able to satisfy Auston Matthews’ open ended pressure on the organization and it’s probably time to just make a smart hockey trade and turn the page. What are they going to be able to do in the next two years, build a juggernaut that surpasses Florida on paper in the east and can carry a declining Matthews to more success than ever before? The guy shows no personal accountability to be a driving change for the positive in Toronto.

They don't have their next 2 1sts, that would be INCREDIBLY stupid

why dob you want to do the stupid thing?

Would that be considered tampering since it was leaked? They are not suppose to be having any conversations with him until July 1st.

If that pic was real it doesn't mean they talked to him. They could simply have been getting ready.

Also, if Florida is on board they can give permission for them to speak in the hope of working out a Raddysh type deal.

I'd expect them to trade both Hildeby and AA if they go the Bob route. Really just no point in developing goaltenders if all you do is dump them because they can never get NHL games since the team will always face the dilemma of "well they have no experience!" by signing or acquiring the next veteran to fall in their lap.

If I'm Chayka and I can bring in Bob I do it and I don't care if it's a 6 year deal why?

because it's not a 6 year deal it's really a 3 year deal.

because Bob plays games, even if Stolarz came back and was better than he was in 2025 he's playing 30 games.

Because I'm sick and tired of playoff chokers and quitters in our next.

Andersen choked in game 7 in 2018 quit on them in 2021

Campbell choked away a 3-1 series lead in 2021

Woll quit on the team in 2024 when he decided not to play game 7, then choked away game 3 the next year and single handidly cost them that series.

It's time to bring in a goallie with some guts and some try.

somebody that's not afarid.

If you can get Bob you give him WHATEVER he wants
Bro woll had a f***ing sprained back. How the hell was he supposed to play?

Count me in the group that doesn't understand the appeal of Bob.

I respect his pedigree and the goalie he is....but that age and with the Term/AAV....should we really be using our cap-space on this?

Not to mention the two prospects we have in the pipeline

Go check what Belfour did with the Leafs at that age.

Twenty-six games, ffs.
Every all star or hof goalie had to start somewhere.
I’m not saying in anyway that Hildeby is that. But why develop goalies at all if you won’t give them a chance when they have developed well.
I remember when Philly had a young goalie that showed promise and traded him to sign a vet cause they couldn’t wait for him to develop and “wanted to win now”

So they traded a young Bobrovsky to make room for Bryzgalov. How did that work out.
Ironically enough one of the picks that went the other way in that trade turned into Stolarz

Yeah I’m on the Bob bus. Go after Bob, go after Tuch. Move out Rielly.

Use assets (2027 Avs 1st, Carlo, whatever else) for the best C possible, hopefully filling in that 2C spot.
Feels crippling imo.

I'm on the ep40 2c train and then getting some assholes to play with us like marchment and tolvanen.

Trade Morgan and Carlo for additional assets that can get us top 6 help

Yup that seems to be where some people want this to go.
Don’t give a guy a chance because he lacks experience. But he can’t get experience if we don’t give them a chance

And then people complain when these players move on to do well. A tale as old as time.

Yeah but you don't give him the f**king net with so little experience. Bring in someone like Bob and let Hildeby continue to develop then see which of him and AA are your guy moving forward.

But why develop goalies at all if you won’t give them a chance when they have developed well.

You act like his career is over in a year or two. He has plenty of time left.
