Bob wears #72
Our new star draft pick wears #72
Just not sure logistically how this would work lol
In all seriousness though, Bob would have to pick a new number and if we can move Stollie and Bob only wants 2 years, I’m in.
AK might be our future in the pipes, and he could learn a ton from a guy like Bobrovsky. Them both being Russian would only help Akhtyamov I’m sure

Stolarz & Hildeby
Or
Bobrovsky & Akhtyamov

I tend to think the second tandem would yield us better results. Akhtyamov just catapulted himself passed Hildeby this past playoffs .

He would be like the Tanev of defensemen. He’s 38.
Johnny Bower says hi, sometimes anomalies happen and old goaltenders have worked in the past. I'm not saying we should open the safe for him, but apparrently he's a workout machine so maybe his age isn't as big a issue?

So we'd be paying 9.5M for 41 yo Bob in 29-30?
I mean, if we're looking for a goalie right now, who's the better option? He’d only cost money and no assets — and we don’t have assets to give up. If we use what little we have on a goalie, where do we find pieces for a 2C, 2RW, or another defenseman? Bob had a down year, but so did the whole team. Goalies get exposed when the team struggles in front of them. Still, he won back-to-back Stanley Cups, has played 50+ games (plus playoffs) for five straight seasons, and is durable thanks to his calm, low-movement style. He barely moves in the crease, which keeps him healthy. He’d also be a perfect mentor for AA and Hildeby — especially AA, who’s too “busy,” swims in the crease. Bob’s calm, economical style is exactly what AA needs to learn.

The contact term may be an issue and Florida walking away from him would be another red flag.

If Matthews is traded, it will be for less than people are hoping. He holds all the cards on where he wants to play.
first it'll be Captain America's call, second if whatever team he wants to play for doesn't pony up you don't trade him, it's that simple.

But he’s also mercurial in the regular season. Which is where we need to see dramatic improvement in order to get to the playoffs. So if you’re going to bet on a goalie at the end of his career vs goalies at the start of their careers, there’s a thing to consider.

4 x $9.5M
5 x $8.25M
6 x $7M

Pick your poison for Bob, he’s gonna get paid. I take the top one any day and would have full confidence in a Bob/AA duo. Hildeby/Stolarz with Bob this year, Bob/AA duo next year onwards.
Why are we betting on a 4+ year big money deal on a goalie who just had the worst season of his career at age 37 as a below average starter, and who will be 38 during training camp next year?

Players almost exclusively continue to decline at that age, not bounce back to have multiple quality seasons.

If they are getting a NHL player and pick(s) it would be for now and the future.

Is Wright undervalued, or drafted incorrectly?

Time will tell.

is this Wright the one who was pegged to go 1st overall, but he slid down and he glared at the Montreal Table for passing him over?

He's 38 and he was nearly career worst bad this year. How can anyone not think there is at least a 50-50 chance he is done? A smart GM would want him to bring that back to Florida.

I didn't reealize he was that old.
it is a big big gamble.

If you go watch Kypers segment on the recent Shannon and MIllard podcast.

I hadn't seen Millard in ages and he didn't look good.

Shannon threw out the idea that Matthews and his camp weren't thrilled about Chayka saying he knew the family to some extent.

This is assuming we believe Shannon. Did he speak to the family to get this info? If not, then he's full of shit.

I wonder about a goalie like Gustavsson. Goalies values are hard to predict, would a 2nd and Stolarz do it or would we have to include Colorado’s 1st? I’d be pretty excited about Gustavsson - Hildeby.
