AK might be our future in the pipes, and he could learn a ton from a guy like Bobrovsky. Them both being Russian would only help Akhtyamov I’m sure

There’s potential there for sure. I wouldn’t judge a goalie who’s only known the Flyers org. Wouldn’t surprise me if he succeeded elsewhere.

I mean, if we're looking for a goalie right now, who's the better option? He’d only cost money and no assets — and we don’t have assets to give up. If we use what little we have on a goalie, where do we find pieces for a 2C, 2RW, or another defenseman? Bob had a down year, but so did the whole team. Goalies get exposed when the team struggles in front of them. Still, he won back-to-back Stanley Cups, has played 50+ games (plus playoffs) for five straight seasons, and is durable thanks to his calm, low-movement style. He barely moves in the crease, which keeps him healthy. He’d also be a perfect mentor for AA and Hildeby — especially AA, who’s too “busy,” swims in the crease. Bob’s calm, economical style is exactly what AA needs to learn.

first it'll be Captain America's call, second if whatever team he wants to play for doesn't pony up you don't trade him, it's that simple.

But he’s also mercurial in the regular season. Which is where we need to see dramatic improvement in order to get to the playoffs. So if you’re going to bet on a goalie at the end of his career vs goalies at the start of their careers, there’s a thing to consider.

Pick your poison for Bob, he’s gonna get paid. I take the top one any day and would have full confidence in a Bob/AA duo. Hildeby/Stolarz with Bob this year, Bob/AA duo next year onwards.

Why are we betting on a 4+ year big money deal on a goalie who just had the worst season of his career at age 37 as a below average starter, and who will be 38 during training camp next year?

Players almost exclusively continue to decline at that age, not bounce back to have multiple quality seasons.

I wonder about a goalie like Gustavsson. Goalies values are hard to predict, would a 2nd and Stolarz do it or would we have to include Colorado’s 1st? I’d be pretty excited about Gustavsson - Hildeby.
