Highly interested here.. would fit the bill as a 3C with 2C upside that’s needed

Wonder what the cost is
I would think Seattle only moves him as part of a package for a bona fide stud with multiple years of control.

ie from us, something like Wright++ for Knies.

Don't see any reason for them to consider Knies for Carlo, Robertson, Macelli, picks, etc.

Adding a better goalie won't destroy their cap structure.

Better goaltender is debatable, and they will if they chase Bobrovsky.

In a few years we can wonder why we can't develop goaltenders and we're stuck with 39 year old Bobrovsky. Or 35 year old struggling Jordan Binnington.

I'm hoping Chayka is smarter than that. I think he will be.

This roster needs blue line improvement and upgrades up front before considering being any kind of contender
And they are clearly going to make (or attempt to make) those changes, as well. Like it or not, they are trying to win a Cup this season. They aren't planning for 2 or 3 years down the road. It's all about this season and next season.

Funny how Seattle is pushing out a high-upside guy they haven't given a chance to, but keep brining in middle-6 guys. Poor Beniers.
I’d bet Beniers is on board with Samoskevich. I think they were linemates at Michigan (I could be wrong). Watch them flip Wright for Kent Johnson and reunite the trio from that 21-22 team.

I don't think they're getting him on top of 7&Wright. It's very likely that the 2027 pick is top 10 anyway.

I don't think that's likely to be a top-10 pick, but either way I'd prioritize talent and a package that would help us win now. A mid 2027 1st does very little for that. Better than nothing but you get the idea.

Wright is not getting 4OA weight in that trade - he's a ~30 pt center with potential but risk, the 7th OA is right on the cup of "sure thing", and those two pieces along with the 2027 who-knows is just not what I'd move Knies for.

Would you do:

Wright + 7th OA + 2027 top 5 protected 1st?
So I really like the top ~4-5 D prospects in this draft.

If one of Carels, Verhoeff, or Smits were available at 7th, Id probably do it (I'll assume Reid is definitely gone by then).

Love Knies, but you're adding a middle 6 centre with upside who can play right now (massive need), a fantastic D prospect with top pairing potentual that is likely in the NHL by the 2027 season (massive need), and another 1st.

Stolarz has averaged 30 starts as a Leaf in two seasons.

Does he even hit 30 again next season?
I don't think Chayka cares to find out. If he is still here in September, he will be the back-up and Hildeby will be gone. I don't think the Leafs have their starting goalie yet.

Have to imagine SEA will want for Shane Wright at least the equivalent to the return they sent FLA for Samoskevich yesterday.

Really hope we don't part with Hildeby since he was one of the few from this past season's team to actually put up good numbers (and I'm sure that he could add fairly nicely to his GP total again this season).

Completely agree on Wright but for reference I would prefer Wright+7 over a package of Rinzel+4 from Chicago.

I still wholeheartedly believe that Seattle team with +Knies&Samoskevich -Schwartz&Wright is picking 8-10OA next year.
