Yeah, I wouldn’t be surprised if he has already made a request or is just waiting it out to become a free agent like Marner. The Leafs need to either extend him or figure out a trade this season. They can’t wait till his contract season.

Things change, his contract expires in 2 years and he could walk. It’s not a fact that he will be here longer than that. Is he happy and wants to play here today? Sure that’s possible, but I won’t believe he’s extending until he actually extends.

The funny thing is it's really not all that difficult to see how 1-2 poorly timed injuries could derail their cup aspirations pretty quickly.
