Yup. If Knies is being traded, then it has to be a bonafide top pairing D coming back.

We may not get that either but the player(s) need to have that upside at least. Nikishin could evolve into a great top-4 - he has good potential. But he's probably a 2nd pairing guy. We could use one, but I'd rather try and dangle Carlo and an asset than Knies.

Gosh I am pretty sure Nikishin didn’t even play alot? Sure hope they would get more for Knies! He only played 18 min per game average.

I would be extremely cautious about trading with Carolina...

This is the opposite of trading with Chicago. If we're moving Knies I wish we got in there before Buffalo cleaned them out.

No free agents, a ton of cap space and some teams believe it or not want to improve. So I think it's just a shift in the ability to add talent to your team and the best way to do it is using picks.

That's a really decent package depending on the scouting reports for Helenius and Mrkta.

I think we have to accept that positional priority here may indicate that a #1 likely may not be available, but possibly a player that can grow into it, like Nikishin.

Taking into account the history of this franchise, we should (legally) forbid trading 1st round picks. PERIOD

CJ and pretty much all the insiders are not worth listening to in regards to Toronto unless it's Friedman. If Friedman is talking about things, it means it's not far from a finish line either.

I don’t think they’d add much to Marchenko. Jackson Smith would be a solid pickup. McKenna connection

Still don’t get why MGT would even consider trading Knies unless it is a massive overpayment.

In this AM era, where literally nobody is accountable of their plays and rarely speaks up about the team and players needing to step up. And when some players do, most of the time, these said players ended up playing a subpar game following their statements of ‘We need to be better bc we were crap.’

Only ONE player make the ‘We need to be better!’ And actually delivered the next game with a hat trick and OT winning goal while smashing everyone in sight and chasing every loose pucks. That’s Matthew Knies.

Unless the players coming back have that mentality or an overpayment like Hartley or Faber. I just don’t see how a team would trade someone like that.

I mean, 33 points on the team where he's not the main PP QB, is pretty good, no?
