GDT: Trade and Free agent Rumours thread | Chayka off-season edition

  • If you are having issues logging in, we have found opening the log in page in a new tab/window rather than using the pop out should resolve these issues. We are working to get this resolved and thank you for patience.
  • Due to the increased volume of league transactions, the Trade Rumors and Free Agent Talk section is temporarily restricted to where threads may only be started by moderators and sponsors. We anticipate that this restriction will be lifted some time after the first round of the draft.
I'm interested in Marchment and would take a flyer on Mantha if he's not expensive but yeah I'm not big on the remaining UFA options. That being said, it's up to the pro scouting and Chayka to find some diamonds in the rough / reclamation projects as well like recent successful teams have done (e.g. Florida).

Marchment is a Left Handed, Left winger. He doesn't belong in the discussion for Tuch, who is a Right Handed, Right Winger. I might not have an issue with signing Marchment, but we currently have three Left Handed Left wingers in the top nine... barring trading Knies, and assuming drafting McKenna.

Tuch is Right Handed, can play on the first line, provides some grit, is fast, and decent production.

Marchment on the other hand is a relatively slow skater... not a problem on your third line, depending on who he is playing with.

Man trading knies is a terrifying deal. Guy can be a 80 point power forward who can dominate in playoffs. Scores. Hits. Passes. PK. PP. Fights.

Better be careful here and get something insane back. Need a number 1 D

I have a hard time seeing a trade that fits.

Not sure why they would but maybe Dickinson + 9th gets the Leafs to listen. I like Dickinson, and Cowan would be very pumped, but he had a rough rookie season. But then the Sharks lose another D -- something they desperately need. They just traded Eklund for a pick...

After that, there isn't much out there that makes any sense to me unless it's a blockbuster to go after Werenski or something.

Dickinson + 9 + 27 <-> Knies + Rielly.

whoever we get will also have to live/play with the fact that they were traded for the fan favourite PWF who had potential to be elite...

if they struggle, the media and fans will let them know. If it's a forward the comparison's will be made often

its why I would rather have a Knies + for Werenski type trade....Everyone knows what Werenski is, and he is very unlikely to disappoint. Basically trading Knies for an even more guaranteed asset

trading knies for prospects or guys on the cusp of breaking out puts a lot of pressure on those guys we get

Nikishin seems like a good option but I dont want to pay a kings ransom for a heavily sheltered #6Dman

All the tools are there though. Maybe 1st + 2nd + prospect?

Sorry why would anyone pay that for what you call a 6 D man, that’s an insane price.

If the Leafs get more draft capital I'd trade a late 1st or a few picks if the Hurricanes don't want to pay his extension.

Size, shot and potential. Not sure why anyone wouldn't take the plunge here. You won't find many perfect guys out there.

Hurricanes are super smart so I do get nervous trading with them... That's my biggest red flag.
