Isn't that kid from Philly a RD? If we just traded for him he needs that spot I'd have thought
LHD who can play some right side. Have to imagine there's a spot for someone who appeared in 65 games (regular season & playoffs combined) for a playoff team, yeah.

New 4th Line / 3rd pairing

Malenstyn - Rasmussen - Raddysh

Joshua for Rasmussen
Robertson for Raddysh+
Sign Malenstyn

Expand the Robertson trade to include Schneider's rights, and send Villeneuve's back.

3rd pairing of Andrae - Schneider

While I'm in the camp that thinks it's time for Rielly to move on as well, is there a world where Chayka simply trades Carlo and Joshua to open up another $7.35 million in cap space (bringing the team to nearly $26 million cap space and adds someone like Sean Durzi via trade, before turning his attention to the forward group to make 3-4 additions?

McCabe / Raddysh
Rielly / Durzi
OEL / Tanev
Andrae / Danford

Rielly feels extremely redundant at his cap hit in that #3/4 spot, but I wonder...
Rielly-Durzi would be an absolute disaster.

What are some possible replacements for Domi? -29 and terrible underlying numbers defensively, worst on the team. Wonder if we can find someone who can give similar amount of offense but be much better defensivelt?

Rielly's cap hit is what 3/4 D will be getting paid going forward.

Rielly/Durzi... two guys who can't play D... doesn't sound smart.

That's going to be interesting to see where Domi falls. Obviously zero to negative value. Health concerns might mean his season is in question, but it's very early for all that. They may not have a choice to keep him and find a role if he is healthy. Maybe he fits on Robidas Island for awhile.

Need 4RHD imo if were to factor in Tanev's durability for next season. It's why it gives me pause on Carlo's potential departure

I agree. I know it’s not going to happen but I wouldn’t be against Raddysh + the D we went the furthest with in the playoffs the last 20+ years.

OEL-Raddysh
McCabe-Tanev
Rielly-Carlo
Andrae

Basically Raddysh and Andrae replacing Benoit and Myers.

That’s three 2nd pairing Ds. You hope your forwards can dictate play over your opponents top pairing. You have a good matchup vs a teams second unit. And then if Rielly and Carlo are playing 3rd and 4th lines, you should be dictating play unless you’re playing a dominant 3rd line.

That said, I know Rielly is gone. Hoping for something like a 2nd or 3rd.

If I can replace Carlo and say trade him for hopefully a 2nd and another pick. Or if a team like Anaheim who will lose all their right shot D to free agency: Carlson, Trouba and Gudas.

I honestly was having the expectation he probably wasn't going to play this season. The he would be entering his final year with us and who knows from there.

I believe he's just in a toxic place mentally with everything that has happened there. I can see a trade giving a performance bump as he is one of the biggest change of scenery guys I have seen in ages.

Very good defensively, so he could take the matchups.....

I would be hesitant about an overpay, however.
EP is very good defensively? Was top 10 worst goals expected against in the league this year.

Yeah it's very much in the air. The season is in 3 months. Maybe his recovery is 6+ months, not sure. I think the off-season additions/changes will say a lot about if Domi will be ready for training camp.

I'm not sure about that...

What do you mean? The Canadiens have been playing man-to-man for a few years now.

Anyway, if McTavish is the guy you lot are eyeing, I think Pickford is much less appealing to Anaheim than Reinbacher, given that most of the NHL RDs are leaving.

I don't think McTavish is the target, but who knows?

Also, according to edge data, there's not a huge difference between Gudas and Carrier's skating.

Yeah, and Carrier's skating and size have definitely been an issue for the Canadiens. He's been effective killing penalties, but five-on-five, he struggles with the man-to-man coverage. He's a place holder for them right now.

I still think everyone is going to be surprised how much Rielly gets. Yes, Detroit overpaid for Faulk, but why would you trade a better defenseman (Rielly) on what's becoming a better deal by the year with the cap rising for less than something relatively significant. A 2nd round pick or worse makes us worse. Why would we do that.

I just don't get why when any other top-4 defenseman gets traded theres 1sts and prospects and roster players, and with Rielly some would be happy with like a 3rd lol

Trouba, Peeke, Kulak, Stanley, Ferraro, Dickinson, Laughton, Malenstyn, E. Kane and Bobrovsky is the list.

Some are good players but contract inflation numbers might make their on ice value a negative.

Puck transition is key which is why Rielly’s rumours are a bit odd ..

That said I can’t see Trouba, Peeke, etc don’t seem to jive with the direction they necessarily want to go

That said there is a balance too of play style that needs to be considered

I’m guessing Rielly will be the next move. Once Chayka has an idea on that return he will probably start lay groundwork for the next steps

Can’t say he doesn’t have a plan!

I was thinking extend him at 8 years 9M as apart of the extension talks if we acquired him but if he needs 10M to not go to market, thanks but no thanks.

Thoughts on Pettersson for 2C? Worth the gamble? Hope Sundin has more insight into his precipitous decline

I mean 10M isnt obscenely crazy in the new age for a top-4 defenseman. Would be 8.81% of the cap. For reference, when Rielly signed his deal it was for 9.01%.

The question is just whether you think he can take the next step and be good defensively, which he hasn't shown he can do yet.

I still think Ferraro would be a good target, especially if we can find a taker for Rielly. If not him then possibly Shea.

I'm less high on Tuch at his likely cost after his playoff end. We've seen enough of that already. You could get both McMann and Marchment for that cost.

I wonder if Chayka will try to make an even bigger swing to overhaul our defense (in case of Tanev injury) by going after Andersson as well. Andersson had a rough playoffs as well, but he's a huge improvement on what we have currently for puck moving and all you have to pay is money. You can then move Carlo for assets or keep him as Tanev insurance.

Ferraro-Raddysh
McCabe-Andersson
OEL/Andrae-Carlo
