There is no playoff revenue when you are not good enough to make the playoffs. There would be a loss of regular season revenue as fans stop following a failing team similar to previous kessel era leafs when things got bad.

If matthews ask out its a mid 70 point team at besr. Its common sense and not that hard to understand what the loss of Matthews would do to this team

You miss the playoffs again, the house of cards falls and all core players want out. That suppresses their values and you take future assets to reposition

MLSE have no control in whether a player wants to be a leaf or not. The Leafs can contend and sell toronto as a major destination due to Matthews and lesser extent nylander and tavares.

We need to do well so these guys can still buy into this team and want to stay. If they want out, we will not be an attractive organization to players (UFA or potential tradable stars)

They will do what's best to retain fan strength and continue to build out the Raptors, FC and bring the Jay's into the MLSE portfolio in a while.

Fingers crossed the retool works, Matthews bounces back and we go atleast ECF this year. Then can extend matthews and build a 5-7 year playoff contender again
Let's agree to disagree. In the meantime, I don't think this team will have much trouble making the playoffs.

lol is that what you're going with? "all those who disagree are just ignorant!"? Good luck with that.

The players play - the management group determines direction. Common knowledge (for most).
The players determine where they want to be.

Players ask out they get moved

We are seeing with Larkin. Hes asking out, will get dealt in what's reported to he a likely rebuild type package as detroit enters another rebuild.

The same would happen to us if we miss the playoffs and matthews ask out.

Hopefully thats avoided and we have a great year

Simmons is a goof but I also think it makes plenty of sense. Right handed, decent production. Pretty whatever but could be ok. He does have one big 20 goal season with the Hawks but has been a pretty mediocre performer since. No idea how his underlyings numbers are either.

With the Raddysh pickup and obviously the 1OA, I’m actually feeling okay about the upcoming season. I thought for sure we were going to tailspin, but this is a real injection of two new core pieces that will help the remaining core move on from their memories of Marner. Shipping Rielly out will also help there.

This season still lives and dies on Matthews and I still think we should have blown it up, but I’ll tip my hat at the front office doing the best they can within the mandate of competing. I hope it all works out.

I understand it needs to happen... but I'll be pretty sad when it hits. I was pretty sad with Woll leaving too.

Fan of Reilly. Would like to see him under a new system, but speed is an issue. Don't see much more than a middle draft pick as much as I would love to see more. Dont think this is a trade they are trying to win as much a trade to reset both team and player.

Oh, c'mon, do it for the drama.

Surely MSL has a good book on him through various TB connections.

Montreal's D is built on mobility.

If they want a less mobile guy just for physicality, they have Arber Xhekaj,

I suspect they would much prefer Xhekaj to Gudas, but either way it doesn't much matter cause Arber is likely getting pushed out of the top six with David Reinbacher and Adam Engstrom ready to graduate.

Are you sure those guys are staying with a center inbound?

When im putting teams together I have a bit of a dilemma
Besides Nylander we have bugger all on the right side but theres two ways of solving it

Do you throw money at a high priced top 6 guy then get a cheap third liner like Tuch and Yamamoto or do you spread the money and get a McMann and Marchment, Arvidsson combo

I think there going to cost the same but which would be better?

He's a right shot and does kill penalties.

He has some good speed too, he was a target that I liked.

Would NYR take something like Robertson for him?

I think if they move a blue liner, it will likely be Bryce Pickford. Engstrom could certainly move in the right deal, but I suspect they are holding on to David Reinbacher.

Even if they were to move those guys, they still wouldn't be bringing in a guy who can't skate or move the puck. The Canadiens play a man-to-man defence (just like Carolina) and it requires very mobile defensemen with a good first step, and Gudas definitely wouldn't be able to excel in a system like that.

The counter to this is the front office hasn't really done anything yet. They had the first overall pick handed to them, and they got a number one defenseman who only wanted to play in one place.

I'd expect a mid round pick to easily get that done from what I know but I could be wrong. Maybe a young decent player could get it done. Not 100% sure.

I'm not sure about that...

Anyway, if McTavish is the guy you lot are eyeing, I think Pickford is much less appealing to Anaheim than Reinbacher, given that most of the NHL RDs are leaving.
,

Also, according to edge data, there's not a huge difference between Gudas and Carrier's skating.

Going to need a source on the “only one place” claim, but yes, the 1OA was a gift.

I don't want to go back through it all because I've said it a million times in prior posts, but yes this was the team he wanted to sign with. It's not an accident that Tampa traded him to a division rival a full 10 days before July 1. He was always going to sign only here.

Interesting dilemna... EP40 or Tuch for about the same money? And what's the cost to obtain EP40?
Enter 'Mentor Mats' into he equation too....

Since he's had a couple of down seasons, I would move Colorado's 1st, NikRob/MM plus perhaps Villeneuve or Haymes? On other boards I hear talk of retention, but he's still 27 with a ton of bounceback potential.

Gives a bit of a hedge against AM leaving, or being traded.
