Enter 'Mentor Mats' into he equation too....

Since he's had a couple of down seasons, I would move Colorado's 1st, NikRob/MM plus perhaps Villeneuve or Haymes? On other boards I hear talk of retention, but he's still 27 with a ton of bounceback potential.

Gives a bit of a hedge against AM leaving, or being traded.

Is Mentor Mats, any better than Mentor Sedin's... who had a word with him about hard work and success, and then made the decision to move him?

I think Rielly and Carlo should go. And Tanev should be penciled in as the bottom pair RHD, because he likely wont be available for a lot of the season. Relying on him to be in the top 4 will just leave the Leafs in a bad position.

Still looking at a couple more good defensemen to be added.

would this be 4th line RW or?

Probably? Could make a case to be a 3RW if he produces a little more. He was getting just under 12min with the Rangers last year. When he scored his 20 goal season with the Hawks a few years ago he was getting 16min.

I believe he's just in a toxic place mentally with everything that has happened there. I can see a trade giving a performance bump as he is one of the biggest change of scenery guys I have seen in ages.

Very good defensively, so he could take the matchups.....

I would be hesitant about an overpay, however.

could trade for him and sign Kapanen, let the best man win for the 3RW? worst case, you have the two penalty killers on the wings.

Ideally I agree with you. I like Stecher as a #7 if he comes cheap to fill in for Tanev if/when he gets injured.

I actually like Tverberg quite a bit in a 4th line role. Maybe not ready this year, but is fast and seems to create things out of nothing. I also love Landon Sim. Just the rat side of him. Size is an issue, but give me guys like that all day over vanilla 4th liners cashing a cheque.

Maybe we should keep Carlo as Tanev insurance.

We do need a top 4 LD though.

also the dude has had two miscarriages i believe? That couldl f*** with anyone.

I wonder if we could help his mental state by showing him how good sick kids and their facility is or if thats just weird? I dunno.

Danford, for sure.

Idk about Stecher. A potential Andrae- Stecher pairing doesn't seem optimal and he doesn't seem like he could play higher in the line-up

Fair but I'm not sure I'd be overly worried about being to replace Carlo's role and abilities. I think Chayka can probably get creative there. Let's just hope there's a team out there willing to pay something close to what we paid to get him.

Isn't that kid from Philly a RD? If we just traded for him he needs that spot I'd have thought

Id rather have Yamamoto as the 3rd line RW, cheap and very good play driving numbers
I like the idea of a Yamamoto/Kapanen + Raddysh combo. Best case scenario you could have 2 3rd line RWs.

This would give us 17.9m cap room. Assuming Joshua is also traded somewhere else.

While I'm in the camp that thinks it's time for Rielly to move on as well, is there a world where Chayka simply trades Carlo and Joshua to open up another $7.35 million in cap space (bringing the team to nearly $26 million cap space and adds someone like Sean Durzi via trade, before turning his attention to the forward group to make 3-4 additions?

McCabe / Raddysh
Rielly / Durzi
OEL / Tanev
Andrae / Danford

Rielly feels extremely redundant at his cap hit in that #3/4 spot, but I wonder...
