He's been healthy scratched already and he's sporting a 2.55M cap hit going into next season. Not sure he's really a target.

If they aren't enamored of him perhaps they would be willing to do a Ritchie + something minor for Myers?

Basically a wash cap wise but we roll the dice on a large toolsy defenseman

Sens fan (coming in peace, yada yada).

Our board was discussing Marner. Just curious, what would you realistically expect coming back in a deal from our squad? His cap hit is less of a concern for us since it's not clear we're ever going to spend to the cap anyways. There's possibly a win-win trade there.

We all want capable and competent defenders for sure. Fans can hate Dubas all they want but he was able to find some pretty good defensive upgrades in Muzzin and Brodie. Holl has been fine as well. If Sandin and Liljegren develop further, I think this defensive core is the best it's been in awhile. It's a good top 7... so Im not sure the Leafs need to break the bank to go after someone like Manson.
Don’t think it would take a hole lot to get a mason
He’s a ufa this year I believe also

I like Muzzin but I’d also look for alternatives too
Cheaper and faster

I'd say Tkachuk but I doubt he'd be available so I'd definitely target Batherson 100%.

For a guy like Manson the core will have to earn it in my opinion. If we're in full gear by the deadline, back to our Vegas odds kind of play you definitely pull the trigger on Manson. Rielly Brodie Muzzin Manson in the playoffs.... you don't say no to that under these circumstances.
Yes you do.

Manson had one good season and ever since Leaf fans have been gaga over him.

He's been a #4 at best since. He's a waste of assets at this point.

P. Myers out of Nashville is a guy I’d target.

He would be an interesting project.

Kind of curious what will happen to Tony DeAngelo. Seems like a bad dude but on a one year $1 million deal and is quite productive with the Hurricanes.

We're basically adding a defenseman not likely good enough to play regularly in our top 6 nor does he move the needle. I liked Myers a lot a few years ago but he doesn't seem like much of an upgrade on anything. Ritchie isn't great right now either though... but at least he has a track record of being able to contribute for his price tag.

For some, he's had more that one good season. He was very good defensively, and physically before that one offensive season outlier. He was on the radar, much like Weegar was, before Weegar also broke out offensively. Has he been good since, no, you are right there. I never really cared about his offense, just his physicality and defensive side. That was apparent before that one season.

And once that trade happens. Same people will be like Manson sucks and is even worse than Holl

This is a fact. A lot of people in here actively cheering against the team.

When I'm watching a television show that I'm not enjoying, I turn it off. I don't go find the reddit forum for that TV show and spend hours on end in there.

It's odd.

I know what you mean. Barring they are trolls, part of Leafsnation just loves it when the team sucks

He's a guy I had a lot of interest in at one point as well. Good size, physical, would make a good bottom pairing, with perhaps second pairing upside. Played well his first couple of seasons, and then like much of Philly, fell apart last year, and isn't fairing any better this year. It's almost like the Philly implosion last year damaged him. Plus, in no world is he worth $2.55 mil right now...

If we are looking for an acquisition on D, what about Chiarot? UFA at the end of the year, team isn't going anywhere.... Send them a pick/prospect and Holl, for Chiarot at 50%....

Wonder what it would take to get P Myers. Maybe something surrounding Nick Ritchie but I like the potential grit he adds

I can't say I'm particularly enamored of Ritchie, I look at it as one overpaid underperformer for another and if we are going to roll the dice you can take worse shots than a large defenseman that can skate (which we lack in the organization)

Hell make the move now, get Myers with our development team and start working on him for next season while hes our #7D, which frees up Holl and his 2M for a potential move if your that way inclined

Which I am

Hypothetically, you could do something around Ritchie + Holl for Myers + Cousins. Cousins is nothing special, but he is a pest, can play a fairly low maintenance 4th line game, and is a former Soo Greyhound. His contract expires after this year and then we can let him go on his merry way with the cap savings.

Toss in a prospect on our end, and you may have something that could work.

The only thing is, if Liljegren, Dermott, and Sandin are every day players... Myers is on the outside looking in here too.

Can we stop with the former Soo players? It’s looking like that’s not a good strategy to build a winner.

Unfortunately nothing you'd be willing to give up.

Either a package or straight up involving these names:
Batherson, Tkachuk, Chabot, Stutzle, Pinto, Sanderson

Pretty much agree with this, if its a straight up move for Ritchie it makes a lot of sense. Also saves us the hassle of finding a 7D in the offseason.

In some ways it saves cap, because it opens up the opportunity to deal Holl in a subsequent trade for picks and prospects assuming Ritchie is replaced on a league minimum deal.

Bracketing a Marner return I'd build off of three precedents

Carter/Richards/- 7th overall + Voracheck+ 3rd rnd / Schenn + Simmonds
So Extremely high end young asset (top 10 pick, top 5 prospect in hockey) + a young contributing top 6 player with something unique (1st line upside, power forward)

Nash Future 1st + Erixon + Anisimov + Dubinsky
So mid late first, top 30-50 prospect in the league, Big young top 9 C with top 6 upside, gritty top 6 forward

From Ottawa Carter/Richards type options
2022 Unprotected 1st/ Sanderson / Boucher + Norris / Pinto / Batherson

From Ottawa Nash type options
2022 Top 10 Protected 1st + JBD/Thompson + Pinto /Batherson + Brown
