Holl may be going. In theory it would leave the Leafs weakened on the right side with literally no 4th option after Brodie/Dermott/Liljegren. Could Biega or Menell be that 4th option if Holl gets moved? Doubtful that a serviceable right sider could come back in return for Holl unless it's one of those "our problem for your problem" type of deals.

Holl is better than what he's shown so far... so it's a risky thing to just dump him. I will say though that Arizona could be a nice place to try and dump Ritchie and maybe Holl could join him.

I do think Menell would give the Leafs some serious speed and skill on the backend. He's not great defensively or anything, but at this point we might as well double down.

It would be wise to keep Holl, even if he might get pushed to the 7th D role.

It's a long season - injuries will happen, Sandin and/or Liljegren will eventually go through a rough patch, and having someone like Holl to come in, helps. He's better than what he's shown, and hopefully a few games off will help him.

We can't be in a hurry to push depth off of the roster.

The same people pushing for a Holl deal are the ones who complain of a lack of depth….

The season is a marathon not a sprint

Holl is too cheap to bother trading at the moment. 2 million is basically MSRP for a #5.

Plus you could probably get a 2nd for him at the deadline if we were to end up sellers. Or a 1st if he turns his season around.

yep I think we just rotate through the 7.

Unless we send home back in a Manson package or something crazy and unexpected

What do we need to do to get Kubalik out of Chi to slap on Matthews’ wing?

1st/Robertson? Ritchie? Kerfoot?

Kubalik - Matthews - Nylander
Bunting - Tavares - Marner
Mikheyev - Kampf - Kase
Engvall - Spezza - Simmonds

Man I’d love to revisit that Weegar-Dermott/Johnsson trade, along with the McCann waiver decision.

Imagine:

McCann-Matthews-Nylander
Bunting-Tavares-Marner
Enqvall-Kase-Kampf
Ritchie-Spezza-Simmonds

Rielly-Weegar
Muzzin-Brodie
Sandin-Liljegren

except you just lose McCann on waivers again or weegar.

They would expose those guys AND McCann.
They could have protected McCaan and exposed Kerfoot and Holl.

Choosing Kerfoot or Holl over McCaan was obviously a big mistake.

Nick Ritchie (2.5) Justin Holl (2) Kerfoot (3.5) = 8
Hyman (5.5) (Bogosian (850 k) McCaan (2.94) = 9.25.

This illustrates how important 1.25 million savings on the cap of a Marner/Matthews contract are and making the right decisions on players are.

McCaan (7 points in 8 games) >> Kerfoot.
Hyman (looks close to a team Canada LW right now)>>>>>>>>> Ritchie (barely an NHLer).
Bogosian >> Holl. (Not sure how we could have kept Bogosian but he's better this year).

Hyman-Matthews-Nylander
McCaan-Tavares-Marner

This top 6 is miles better then what we have now.
