McCaan is their #1C ...here, he'd likely be C on line 4, or playing the wing.
getting the most icetime, all the PP time and the best wingers, and used as a main offensive player will tend to get you more points, but, its still and 8 game sample. lets see if he has a Karlsson breakout season (that he never came close to repeating) of he just goes back to being the 'meh' player he really is ...i'd still expect a career high season because he's used in the #1C role, but, that could just as easily been Kerfoot with the same opportunity, since over their careers Kerfoot has actually shown more than McCaan has
McCaan
NHL Totals3616993162

.45 ppg average
Kerfoot
NHL Totals2875387140
[TFOOT] [/TFOOT]
.49 ppg average
McCaan does score more goals

McCann also has an unsustainable shooting percentage, and his main linemate (Brandon Tanev) has an even more unsustainable shooting percentage.

Their underlying play is actually subpar, and even though they are putting up some goals, they are giving up even more the other way right now. That unsustainable shooting percentage is the only thing keeping them somewhat respectable at this point.

It blows my mind a little that Jason Demers is still without a contract. I wonder what's the insight there? I feel like he'd be a good depth veteran option for many teams... assuming he wants to play and he's healthy.

He has sucked for a few years now.

He may have been a capable 6/7 this year at best, but Sami Vatanen's fall from grace is more surprising than Demers'.

This year's addition needs to be a defenceman

At this rate, I kind of hope they don't do anything at all. Enough is enough. Play the young guys and we have enough veterans we don't need to spent top 90 picks for rental veterans that won't do anything.

It's a bit of a blessing we don't have cap space to add rentals.

(unless of course there's a bunch of long-term injuries, etc)

I hope we do a bit of buying and selling at the TDL

Try to get rid of some of the contracts we don't want next season and look to aquire some younger players on low $ contracts with some room for growth (Bunting, Kase)

Almost a start our off-season early but give ourselves a boost for the playoffs simultaneously

I would maybe add another Hutton to the mix. That would be it... and quite frankly, they could make that move tomorrow.

The only player right now, and that could change quickly, that I'd punt would be Ritchie. His cap could be spread into 2 depth players and we wouldn't blink an eye on his loss. You could probably trade him for an AHLer to clear his cap hit... maybe.

That's the extent of it.

It's a long season, I could see somebody like Holl falling into that bucket as well

That would open up some cap room to bring in the types of guys I'm talking about

I said last the same thing .
Let the core show me that they can win a round first , if they do that t,hen next yr do something at the deadline if need be.

They've been given many many many additions at the last few deadlines. Last playoffs was the last straw to me. I don't care if it's irrational. I agree with you completely.

Will they stand pat? Probably not. It would be dumb for them to not try to upgrade of course... but it would have to be without using picks or top prospects to me.

I'd be willing to give up a 2nd for a major upgrade like Hall (i think you can justify that) but I'm against moving our 1st or mid to late rounders for "depth" types

Just a little rant here.

Reading anything from an Oilers fan right now is brutal. Most of them are so f***ing full of themselves.

They still have no goaltending. I can't see how that tandem will carry them anywhere in the long run.

Same ol same ol... same ol... take away McDavid, and Drai and they're a bottom feeder.

Also their division is probably the worst in the NHL.

Sorry probably wrong thread but had to get that out

It's a bit of a house of cards. Some guys riding sky high sh% and there's no getting around what that D core looks like (and it's not good)

Kerfoot is a lot more valuable than Hallander, too. Hallander is struggling to score in the AHL, while Kerfoot is a very nice middle-6 piece for the Leafs right now.

1 point in 7 games in his AHL debut season. Fairly meh start to the year to say the least

If Montreal keeps going into a deep dive
A couple of UFA's that may be traded at the deadline
Re-sign which ever one we trade for

Trade Holl
Trade engvall

Brett kulak 1.8
Ben Chiarot 3.5

He's been healthy scratched already and he's sporting a 2.55M cap hit going into next season. Not sure he's really a target.
I just want good defenders at decent contract
Don’t need superstars
In offseason all I wanted was Brodie and tanev

we got 1
I’d try and trade holl + for either tanev or josh mason
Hearing mason is worth a 2nd
that would make our top 4 pretty reliable and allow the kids to fight for last 2 spots

up too matthews can play with anyone and still score, it’s coming, he’s too dominant
Keep marner with tavares and put nylander with kerfoot in other line
See what happens

but glad keefe hasn’t been afraid to tinker

We all want capable and competent defenders for sure. Fans can hate Dubas all they want but he was able to find some pretty good defensive upgrades in Muzzin and Brodie. Holl has been fine as well. If Sandin and Liljegren develop further, I think this defensive core is the best it's been in awhile. It's a good top 7... so Im not sure the Leafs need to break the bank to go after someone like Manson.

For a guy like Manson the core will have to earn it in my opinion. If we're in full gear by the deadline, back to our Vegas odds kind of play you definitely pull the trigger on Manson. Rielly Brodie Muzzin Manson in the playoffs.... you don't say no to that under these circumstances.
