Lost in all of this is that Dermott is on the trading block (as per Friedman).

Edit: sorry, I missed the post saying the same thing on the previous page

A player that's yet to make the playoffs in his career joins a team that's yet to miss them in their existence as a franchise. Good move for Eichel. Tuch is under contract for a considerable amount of term still, and both he and Krebs were drafted in the 1st round. Perhaps neither a great nor poor return there for Buffalo.

Pretty much a clear example why we shouldn’t be eager to deal one of the big boys
There are some pretty massive things bringing down the value though
1. Trade demand
2. Major injury about to be treated with a controversial surgery

Point still should be taken though, if you want to move a mega contract it will be tough to get fair value talent wise. Of course the cap space itself has a lot of value.

I wonder if Menell is a/the defender in question that the Leafs would like to provide with more of an opportunity? Seems a bit strange to me that they'd scratch a healthy Holl for Dermott if they were open to trading away the latter though. Perhaps it was a matter of showcasing and all...but?

Eichel won’t be playing until next year so they time to trade some cap space. Hopefully it’s Pacioretty

So, if TD is on the one on the block, what’s the expected return?
There’s already a numbers game up front with Mik/Semyonov and a couple more, and that would make the 7th D pretty green.
I can’t see much legs to this, really.

Do you guys remember when Buffalo and Toronto were to have the rivalry of decades with Eichel on their side (who is better than Matthews) and Matthews on our side? Man, you gotta feel for them.
And now it looks like they’ll be on the same team.

3 1sts and a 2nd for a player that needs ADR surgery ?? I'd say the Sabres did pretty good given that everybody knew Eich wanted out and he'll be out for at least 4 more months. Vegas will still have to dump somebody to make the cap work (ala Nate Schmidt).

Maybe an underwhelming return but I agree. It depends on how his injury ends up healing and what problems he'll have for the rest of his career. It's still taking a risk.

Plus after seeing how he's been attitude wise... who knows how that carries over to Vegas.

Sure through the media it sounds it's a medical thing that they're arguing about... but the guy never seemed to embrace Buffalo.

Yeah its Buffalo... but if you get drafted by a team... a sign of a leader is putting up with a lot if bullshit. He doesn't seem to have that. Maybe he'll prove me wrong eventually but I don't know that's the impression I get. It's a privilege to play and make the money they do.

That goes for a lot of players. He just didn't want to be a part of a solution. Clearly he wanted out.

And I'll add yes that's obvious, and I'd say good riddance. Any guy wanting out off a team I cheer for can gtfo.

Did Vegas protect the 1st rounder if it’s a lottery pick? Buffalo could have two top 10 picks and then whatever Florida’s spot will be.

So Vegas currently around $17 million over the cap, but with Patch, Eichel, Bischoff. On LTIR to get them compliant.

I wonder what their plan is, to get under the cap, whenever these guys get healthy. (If they do).

It's awful for a franchise level center.

Not much they can do though... they pretty much had no choice. I wonder if the packages in the summer were better.

Maybe so, but for a guy that's got the franchise tag from his draft days but has never really been more than elite, is forcing his way out of town, and is a medical risk to never play again, never be the same...

solid haul. The 2nd/3rd swap is really the big blemish on it, should have had a 4th solid piece.

But Krebs+Tuch+1st is a damn valuable package.
