That Tkachuk contract situation dampens the situation I bet. $9M QO next year which leads straight to UFA. What team would move significant pieces if Sabres wanted to trade him? Why not just wait a year and see if you can get him in UFA? If you are planning on trading for him, then he must want to play for that team to sign a long-term contract. This means he CAN pick his destination. Otherwise, you just gutted your future for one year of Tkachuk. He holds leverage here; I'm not so sure if he should be part of the package tbh.

Thats a problem for Buffalo. You’d think they would be flipping him.

They probably will. Tkachuk has everything to gain by just playing out his last year and walking straight to UFA. He'll pick where to go and many teams will bid for his services, which means $$$. Sabres probably get less of a return when they trade him as a rental. But, as a rental, he'll still be worth a tidy sum. If Sabres decide to retain 50% of his AAV, then there could also be a bidding war at the trade deadline.

Yeah, its either Tkachuk goes straight to UFA or they massively overpay him. Or I guess flip Tkachuk.

They're probably holding out hope that Vegas puts Theodore on the table.

They will have a cap issue when Mikheyev comes back.
When Mikhayev comes back, Ritchie could also end up in the press box.

I would do a 2 for 1 deal or a 2 for 2 deal where they take back less salary.
If they package Holl+Ritchie thats 4.5 M. Get back a 3 to 3.5 M player back, or 2 players who make that much... solve the cap problem and hopefully the player/players coming back contributes more than Holl or Ritchie... or at least are a better fit.

Yep... It's gonna get weird if the team is healthy. Engvall has been too good to sit out and Ritchie is expensive to sit out.

Can they send Mik to the Marlies for a conditioning stint and keep him off the cap for a few more days?

See, like I said, it’s a three team deal including our Leafs. Tkachuk is going to be a Leaf.:laugh:
Honestly Buffalo should be trying to do what Colorado did with Duchene trade. Have Tkachuk go to a third team and hoard all the assets.

Eichel and Tkachuk are much better players than Duchene and Turris but somehow Colorado pulled Girard/Kamenev/Bowers (all top prospects at the time)/1st/2nd/3rd while just giving up Duchene

They can always try to trade or give away Ritchie or put him on waivers.
This kid needs a wake up call.
Maybe he needs some time with the Marlies to find his game.
I can't believe this guy was a top 10 pk.

Maybe the leafs need to retain some money or throw in a prospect SDA maybe to the Kraken or Arizona.

Vegas is too impatient.
I hope I’m wrong , but it looks like they’ll be a mediocre team for a long time.

Vegas assumption is that Eichel will be back 100% and healthy.

If he comes back and shows no I'll effects that is a steal for them. A #1C who'll pit 35-45 goals at over ppg, I like Krebs but he's nothing but a prospect right now, and the 1st is a mystery box for the next few years

Friedman confirms leafs looking to move a dman to give a younger dman in the org a chance. Thinks it is Dermott, not Holl

Edit: heres the quote

Not sure why they'd trade anyone on D at this point. With Liljegren showing well they have 7 guys on D, someone ALWAYS takes a shot off the foot or falls awkwardly causing them to miss games.

Unless they're anxious to bring up Menell or Kral to ride the pine as the 7th D I don't see the point in trading Holl or Dermott at this point, unless of course it's an offer you can't refuse
