Murray isn't going to be the Starter, he'll be the backup for the playoffs so when our starter fails or gets injured hel'll lead us to a cup win! ;)

I wouldn't want Brown as the sweetener. Sens actually have a lot of prospects that I like. Pinto, Greig, Formenton, Jarventie would all be great.

At 50% retained, he's got just a 3.125 cap hit. Even if he's your back-up, that's an overpayment of like 1 to 1.5 million bucks. For a significant addition, that's very worth it.

At only slightly more at 3.8M, we thought Mrazek was the plague and dealt him.

Mrazek in the last 3 seasons has technically been better.

Whatever we get from Ottawa in Murrray trade wouldn't it be possible to send that over to the Ilse's for like 1.5 retained on Varly? Varly Murray isn't too bad 🤔

I would swing for the fences and go after Josh Norris.
Even at 3.1, Murray has big negative value and could only be counted as the lesser half of a platoon.

Alex Kerfoot (after his bonus is paid, leaving him with $750 000)
For
Murray (50% retained)
Josh Norris

This would allow us to potentially move Tavares to left wing soon (if Norris keeps developing as he has). Norris is a solid all around center. Kerfoot will be quite useful for Ottawa as a center/left wing at $750 000. Helps with their financial woes a lot. Don’t have to worry about the big signing bonus that Norris will be getting soon too.

If Ottawa thinks it too much, just walk away. They are desperate. Not us. No one needs Matt Murray….. at any salary.

If somebody offered us a significant asset to keep Mrazek, we probably would have.

What do you think Ottawa would add?

Not sure, but I would want either Alex Formenton or Artem Zub, maybe Mathieu Joseph.

With Ottawa being so cheap Kerfooot is a player I can see going back there way.

Kerfoot's actual salary next season is 750K. I could see something like Murray (50% retained) + Brown (30% retained) for Kerfoot.

In terms of real dollars, Ottawa goes from having to pay 14M (buyout cost of Murray + 4M to Brown) to having to pay ~9.45M, and swap pending UFA Brown for pending UFA Kerfoot, who are similar calibre players. So their roster stays at a similar level, they save a solid chunk of cash, but they also eat some caphits (though they're unlikely to be at the cap anyway).

Leafs on the otherhand get Murray at 2 years X 3.125M caphit and Brown at 1 year X 2.5M caphit. Murray is a risk, because if he plays at his ~0.895 level from most of the last few years, then we're paying tandem level money to a guy who is below backup level. But we get to benefit from a year of cheaper Connor Brown. In a typical year, I think we still wouldn't do it. But given the thin goaltending options, I think it's worth a roll of the dice (though I'd hope we're bringing in another guy like Talbot to be paired with Murray).

I think the Leafs would want a bit more from Ottawa than just Brown - especially if Kerfoot goes the other way. At least a pick or prospect extra

Garrioch speculates Holl could be coming back but he said that based on social media speculation. He's unsure if Holl was in discussions or not.

Holl?... K.

At this point there seems to be too much smoke, it seems like a matter of when.

And I imagine this is something they'd want to get done before UFA.

I'd rather get younger assets. We don't need another rental, and Brown isn't a perfect option for that 2LW spot anyways. I don't think going from Kerfoot to him really moves the needle for us.

It would he definitely much more ideal to get someone with some term that can help now

You gotta love Dubas who has Leaf fans on the edge of their seats wondering what bargain bin goalie they'll get next year.

Anyway I predict that OTT and 1 other team will be involved in the retention for Murray. 50% retention, and most from OTT.

Murray is just as risky as Campbell if you ask me.
Of course Murray if healthy and back on his A Game could be the high risk/huge reward goalie.

It's so risky to me though, but Dubas is a lame duck GM at this point. I suppose he can trade for a goalie at the deadline if Murray fails...

The #Oilers have qualified:
1. Benson
2. McLeod
3. Puljajarvi
4. Yamamoto

The following players were not qualified and will become UFAs free to sign with any team on July 13:
1. Berglund
2. Safin
3. Perlini

This situation is interesting. Never thought that we would be discussing Leafs adding Matt Murray. Will be hell of a season to watch from goaltending perspective. Red Wings has a gamble, but they're rebuilding. Avs will gamble, though as cup winners it's easier.

Who we will tie our contending hopes and who will be the guy Dubas bet on his career here. If it's Murray, it will be interesting and terrifying.
