I honestly think the sweetener will be retaining Murray's Salary. Toronto is not trading in an a position where they hold all the cards. TOR is going into the season with Woll and Källgren at this point. Plus once they start rounding out the roster they'll have no cap left.

If Ottawa doesn’t offer significant assets with maximum retention then just wait until he’s bought out.

He only wants Toronto or Edmonton and Edmonton is going to overpay Campbell.

I rather have Murray @ 900k than at $3.125 mill with a small asset.

Yeah, I'd rather take a shot at Murray after Ottawa buys him out that force a trade even if we got something back.

Do you think who Toronto has in net matters one bit to Ottawa?

It's either going to cost the Sens $10 million over the next 4 years via buyout, or $7.5 million over the next 2 at full retention. Dubas has every right to negotiate hard for compensation for that $2.5 million that it is saving Ottawa. Ottawa has no leg to stand on here. Otherwise, Dubas says see ya and then waits for them to buy out Murray, and then get him even cheaper once bought out.

Ryan or Dylan?
Edit: saw your other post about no QO. That's Dylan. And I sure hope not. Honestly don't really want either but I'd rather Ryan than Dylan. Soft 40ish point guys that don't PK aren't really what we're searching for.
He's coming home.

We have free agency to at least improve upon those 2 while Ott has to decide on a buyout now, so I dont think the Leafs need to be desperate just yet.

Go look at the Blackhawks board. They're all rejoicing that Stromes not being qualified.

Reminds me of Bruins fans telling us Ritchie stunk.

A fanbase is usually a good indicator of a players level of play. The fact each fan seems to be happy with this tells me to stay the hell away.

Maybe, hope not though. He doesn’t do too much for me personally.
I think he'll boom or bust here. Theres good opportunities here and a spot available in the top 6. He would either thrive and put it together or flop from the pressure of playing at home and having his game picked apart.

Except Strome is know to be soft, disengaged, and not a good skater

He won’t even be in the top PP unit nor in a checking role.

Big nothingburger for me

Which one?

The one whose team just announced they're not giving a QO too.

I would assume Dylan.

The turbulence in Chicago continues amid reports the Blackhawks will not qualify forwards Dominik Kubalik or Dylan Strome. Kubalik was a seventh rounder who did wonders for Chicago, Strome was chosen third overall by Arizona in 2015, just ahead of Mitch Marner and might entice his hometown Leafs.

No. But why should TOR do favours for OTT and why should OTT do favours for TOR? There has to be some kind of mutual satisfaction here. TOR needs a goalie and Dubas is bargain bin shopping. OTT would like to rid of Murray's contract. The difference is that Dubas is trading from the position of lame duck gm.

Does OTT really have to decide on a buyout? I'm not sure of their situation this year. Are they supposed be a playoff team?

Teams can get fined and penalized for cap evasion. The league has rules about the nature of lineups for preseason for goodness sakes. What Chicago seems to be doing is intentionally dismantling any chance of having a competitive team in the next several seasons. I'm surprised that the league is okay with this.

league doesn't give a f*** about not giving money to players it's why they let the coyotes trade for no one all the time and why they don't want to give the oilers their cap credit.

Especially the Blackhawks who is one of Gary's boys

D. Strome and Kubalik would make sense as a pair.
