If we were to trade Kerfoot, would Colin White at $1.25 be a suitable replacement?
Colin White is a guy I wanna take a gamble on. Plays with intensity, which we lack. May have a fire in him after being dumped. Small move from Ottawa to Toronto as far as the logistics go for him. Can easily compete for our 4C job at a minimum.

He could also play up on the wing.

Engvall-Kampf-White could be a solid line.

I think the thing I love about Murray...is that it's completely Dubas throwing caution to the wind and betting on a horse he used to have in his stable. It flops? Well all the negative Nellys saw it coming, he didn't do enough to get a bonafide starter, and his job should be as good as gone. OR...he knew exactly the type of guy he was betting on in Murray, and it looks like a stroke of genius. Murray shows that back to back Stanley Cup form, is a top 10 goalie in the league...and there's not a peep from the fan base, and Dubie sits there smirking in the press box. I'm excited to see how this plays out...cuz Matt Murray almost seems like a done deal to be a Leaf

He could help him at C too.

But yeah he'd be a very nice complementary wing (on either line) if he feels like giving a hometown discount on a show-me deal.

Mississauga boy has $22m in career earnings. Time to come home and win some Cups.

Can this guy be a good LWer for Tavares ??
No.

Currently the only type of player we should go for or need to "bring home" is similar to our president Brendan Shanahan.

Tavares has always thrived with playmaking body hitting wingers...Ideally, you are looking at a player like Forsberg potentially or obviously Gaudreau...but you don't see them often. Tavares is a shooting center that plays well with rough playmakers.

Dylan Strome is not the player that fits it...however the blackhawks player that prolly fit better would be Dominic Kubalic.

Easier pill to swallow having him lower in the lineup than Kerfoot making $3.5

Why people keep mentioning Brown is....well.....kinda idiotic. What possible sweetness is there for a pending UFA who won't be in the future plans?

Come on guys, think with your head, not your heart.
The only other obvious option is Formenton but with the controversy surrounding the 2018 WJC team he’s probably a no go at the moment.

Kerfoot's actual salary next season is 750K. I could see something like Murray (50% retained) + Brown (30% retained) for Kerfoot.

In terms of real dollars, Ottawa goes from having to pay 14M (buyout cost of Murray + 4M to Brown) to having to pay ~9.45M, and swap pending UFA Brown for pending UFA Kerfoot, who are similar calibre players. So their roster stays at a similar level, they save a solid chunk of cash, but they also eat some caphits (though they're unlikely to be at the cap anyway).

Leafs on the otherhand get Murray at 2 years X 3.125M caphit and Brown at 1 year X 2.5M caphit. Murray is a risk, because if he plays at his ~0.895 level from most of the last few years, then we're paying tandem level money to a guy who is below backup level. But we get to benefit from a year of cheaper Connor Brown. In a typical year, I think we still wouldn't do it. But given the thin goaltending options, I think it's worth a roll of the dice (though I'd hope we're bringing in another guy like Talbot to be paired with Murray).

That's more or less what I expect as a deal.

I don't think it's about future assets, more so grabbing someone like Brown with a cheaper cap hit. Murray has interesting stats and did better than Mrazek on a much worse team. Injuries is the biggest question mark with him(just like Mrazek). He's kind of like Gibson where he's been stuck on a terrible team but with less term and the value is much easier to acquire.

Leafs are reportedly looking at his health, so perhaps it might be an issue.

Just a casual reminder that Strome had 11 hits in 69 games last year, and averages 1 hit for every 4 games played for his entire career.

When I think of the types of guys that excel in the playoffs, I do not think Dylan Strome.

Were any of them at least good hits?

How do you play 69 games and only come away with 11 hits... I mean you kind of accidently bump into other hockey players no?

How come nobody talked about a possible Phil and Bozak return?

He is too slow to hit anyone
