No. But why should TOR do favours for OTT and why should OTT do favours for TOR? There has to be some kind of mutual satisfaction here. TOR needs a goalie and Dubas is bargain bin shopping. OTT would like to rid of Murray's contract. The difference is that Dubas is trading from the position of lame duck gm.

Not sure I'd agree with this take. The market for Murray is pretty much only the Leafs at this point - the Sens tried and failed to bribe Buffalo to take the contract before the draft. If they want him gone, they're going to have to pay. The Leafs on the other hand have other options - we haven't even hit free agency yet.

Hypothetically, if we could get Campbell at $5M, are we really going to choose Murray at $3.15 instead ? That’s a massive downgrade

Term is a factor too… realistically all the goalie options out there right now are high risk.. the question is how much are you willing to commit to.

That being said I’m not advocating for Murray. If that was the rout they went I’d be pretty underwhelmed to mad (depending on the sweetener). But that doesn’t mean I’m comfortable giving Campbell $5 over 5 years either.

Well we are all speculating at this point, and none of us are privileged to the negotiations.

I will say that Dubas doesn't have that many options due to the few selections in the UFA market. Many insiders warned of a challenging offseason for GMs who are goalie shopping.

Does Dubas have a few options or is it 2 (Murray and Campbell)? Is a 5 year deal for Kuemper really a viable option for Dubas ?

Here we go....

Formenton 1-2 years at 2.25M
Gagner 1 year at 800k
Engvall 2-3 years at 1.85M
Strome 1 year at 2.5M
Helm 1 year at 1M
Brooks (or filler C) 1 year 750k

Kulak 1-2 years at 2.5M
Sandin 1 year at 1M

Edit - not sure I gave up enough for Reimer

JT and 88 have no chemistry so I tried to give him a fast big LW in Formenton and Gagner is close friends with him, worst case, hopefully it can tread water until Knies arrives.

I don't understand why a GM would look at a great team that was held back by goaltending and think Matt Murray is the way forward. All he has to do is find someone reliable at it would be a huge upgrade, but he just wants to cheap out yet again

It wasn't just goaltending look at Vasilevskiy's stats in series 1.

If we were to move out 2 defenseman and replace with only 1, would Kral see call ups next year?
Dahlstrom likely starts as the filler guy, then you start getting into Kral and others yes. I would think we add a right shot depth D though with Boosh gone, Duszak gone, Myers on Tampa and Biega not there. Josh Brown or Andrei Sustr are some big meatheads available.

He should see call-ups regardless, but we have a lot of LD depth at all pro levels. We just don't have many outside of the pros (only Koster).

Report: Leafs talks intensifying around acquiring Murray

I know it's just a rumor but I've been hearing a lot of talk about the leaf's and Murray not just from HockeyBuzz.

I really hope this isn't true and doesn't happen, We just got rid of a injury prone goalie on a horrible contract. We don't need another one, If that's our option I'd much rather keep Campbell.

Murray would be 2 years.

Campbell would be 4? 5? 6!?!?

If it's a coin flip between the two, go with the cheaper, shorter term. More flexibility.
Exactly this. I'm not as down on the idea of Murray as some others. At 28, he can still bounce back. Campbell at 30, we still don't truly know who he is as a starter yet either. Both Campbell and Murray are a roll of the dice....so why not roll them on the cheaper contract (assuming retained) & shorter term.

IIRC they did had a deal lined up with Buffalo that involved the 7th overall pick and Murray but Murray blocked the trade with his ntc.

Seems like it's just Toronto/Edmonton for where Murray might go.

It appears the leafs options are over pay for Campbell, or get some assets and take a chance on Murray.

I hate both options. I don't think either option leads you to playoff success. Really sucks that dubas has allowed the teams goaltending to reach this point.

If they go with Murray then I really need to see the leafs trading for a younger goalie with potential but has struggled a bit like Blackwood.

It seems like it's a matter of when not if at this point.

This deal is going to define Dubas' tenure IMO. If the additional asset isnt significant AND there isn't another goalie in the works this is a MASSIVE risk.
