I wouldn’t trust Campbell at all, dude is a band aid. I think option A has to be John Gibson. Anaheim can eat his cap hit down to 5.5, that’s only them retaining $900,000. I would hope a package maybe around Sandin, Robertson, Engvall, Kerfoot and Woll for Gibson and Lundestrom.

I hope not, Campbell is not the answer

He’s not answer but he won’t be problem either. Based on the current cap this team is hard pressed to put in place championship finishing pieces so I think the best you can do is try to replicate last years regular season team and hope for some breaks for a decent run.

If we have to overpay, I'd much rather do it with assets in a trade for the right guy, than in terms of a bad contract for a someone who isn't a sure thing.

Looking back on it all, last summer would have been the time to bet on Jack on a $3.5-4 million instead of giving the other guy a medium term deal.

Who do things need to be characterized as so dramatic? Leafs seemed to be looking to go in another direction and now they can’t…
Benefit of hindsight when it comes to Campbell. Avs are saying the same thing when it comes to Nichushkin.

Tbh I wouldn’t have bet on Jack either after half season against a brutal Canadian division. Mrazek deal was craziness from day 1 though, no hindsight needed there.

Sens are looking for a RHD, we’re looking for a goalie.

Justin Holl
For
Matt Murray @ $2M (50% retained by Senators, remainder retained by additional team)

At least gives us an option in net, ideally Murray would be our backup and we can sign one of Campbell, Kuemper, or trade for Gibson, Talbot.

Gibson should be this teams #1 target. Will it require getting rid of assets as opposed to just signing a goalie, yes, is it worth it, yes. Gibson is a legit #1 who is going to give you 60 games and while he hasn't been the greatest the last couple of years, I think a lot of that is also on the team in front of him.

To Toronto-
Gibson

To Anaheim-
Kerfoot
Robertson
1st Round Pick
Sure lets end this decade without a first rd pick...enough is enough with giving up picks, we are not tampa or colorado

Lets just overpay for Varlamov. Don't want to be anchored to one of these mediocre options for the next five years.

None of the goalies on the market are better than a healthy Campbell. Just sign him and make sure his confidence stays high. We need a new back up though because Kallgren is a third stringer.

Sign someone like Copp or Nishkunin to play with Matthews.

Nish Matthews marner
Copp Tavares nylander
Engval kampf helm/kase
Kassian Holmberg Steeves/Anderson
Cogliano

Rielly brodie
Gio lilly
Sandin Zadorov
Lybush

Campbell
Dreiger
Kallgren

Muzzin and holl can bring in picks or holl can be the 7d.
What’s the cap in your world?

Holl is a lot more valuable than a guy who is still overpaid at that hit.

I am almost coming back around on the idea of acquiring Gibson if he could be retained down to about $5M, we could send some money back, and didn't have to involve premium assets (a quantity package). Somewhat in similar vein the the big TOR-OTT deal from a few years ago.

Even with those factors (which ANA doesn't even really have to go for) there is still risk there, but the options are dwindling.

TOR could unload basically any 2 or 3 B prospects with some level of NHL upside and not feel it too bad, even if the trade didn't work out - again ANA doesn't have to listen though.

My best offer would essentially be:

Gibson @$5M
SPC dump
SPC dump

For

Holl
Hirvonen (or sub in different prospect)
SDA (or sub in different prospect)
2024 2nd.

That's an offer where even if Gibson is just terribly average, TOR isn't in shambles because of that they gave up. I'm sure ANA shoots higher and gets it though.

Is Mike Johnson a good insider?

He gave his opinion on Overdrive yesterday and thinks that Talbot is who TOR is going after.

Is this unlikely?

I consider that ideal at this point, but would want a tandem.

Talbot is a career .915 guy going into the last year of a $3.66M deal.

Dubas and Guerin were chatting it up at the Draft, so I bet initial discussions about this have occurred.

The more I think about it the more I’d prefer this route. Then reassess the position in a years time.

The AAV doesn’t bother me, but being stuck with Campbell/Kuemper on term is a scary thought.

Yes, if some bottom feeders want to overpay, most good teams won't be able to match.

If a good goaltender is just after cash and doesn't care about winning, maybe they aren't the guys you want to target?
When you havent made it out of the first round in twenty years, your a bottom feeder also.

We need an unprotected first coming back from Ottawa for that crap goalie.
