If you don't understand why the MLSE owned Leafs had no interest in Kane, then you haven't been paying attention to the world over the last few years. Guy is a douche...who happens to be good at hockey. Character matters.
The hive mind is alive and strong

Still think a Leafs Islanders trade could help both teams.
To
Toronto
13th overall
Wahlstrom
Raty
Mayfield

To
Islanders
Nylander
Sandin

Islanders get their top line winger and top 4 Ld for their top 4.
Leafs get 13th overall + Wahlstrom to plug into the top 6, Raty a young high-end c prospect and Mayfield a big top 4 Rhd to plug into our d core. With Nylanders cap we can still target a top 6 winger and if we move Kerfoot, Holl and Mrazek we can fill roster holes and get 2 new goalies.
Would like this but I don't see Lou liking Nylander and Sandin very much.

Interesting.

He seems to be trending toward the 20-goal, 45-50 point area. Very cheap too.

I haven't really followed him that much over his career. Can someone describe his play? I know his defensive skills are pretty good and he forechecks. Cheap option for the 2nd line?

13th, Mayfield, Raty for 88? Eh

Sandin for Wahlstrom? Eh

Unless the deal included Dobson, I would pass.

All the tools, no tool box.

Engvall-Kampf-Puljujarvi would dominate as a defensive 3rd line.

It would be. Puljujarvi isn't much of an offensive threat but he's a really good 2-way forward at the very least. Seems like a bigger version of Kerfoot really.

Minus the brainpower, I wouldn't ask to much of him quite honestly

Put him with some offensive talent, get some offensive production out of him

Sell when we can't afford him any longer

Profit

I'd be okay with Soup for that price, but likely ensures Kerfoot is gone. Soups lack of playoff scoring is definitely a concern though
Agreed. I am a big fan of Mikey. But I don't think he is the type of guy you win with in the playoffs. I know he was hurt for a few of them but I can't recall a single positive impact he has made in any of the three playoff series. Leafs will miss his speed and PK though...at least during the season.

If the Oilers are looking to change the dynamics of their bottom 6, I would trade for Warren Foegle. Maybe Engvall for Foegle trade. I think he's better than what he showed in Edmonton and I think he would work on the 2nd or 3rd line.

Can someone tell me the appeal of trading for Puljujarvi? It's basically a less talented Laine. Lazy defensively and didn't make an impact on the Oilers 3rd line.

Big pass from me.
The hope is probably that the best is yet to come considering his draft pedigree. There's both a trade and new contract to consider though and I probably wouldn't expect either to be inconsequential. I'd also deem Puljujarvi to be better defensively than Laine (FWIW!), but obviously nowhere near his equal on offence.

What the hell is this Gagner rumour?
Is he still any good?
Being in a Leaf uniform will help him break Sittler's record this time? For a cup of coffee or so, his dad was a former Leaf? :sarcasm:

In all seriousness, he could be serviceable if the contract is cheap. Couldn't say I'd like or dislike the idea too much.

Lazy defensively? Not sure about that one. Good play driver that doesn't finish very well.

I think there are a lot of tools in his game that could be developed into a solid all around player. He only just turned 24 years old.

That's the kind of buy low player that good GMs target. Not sure he'll be much of a buy low player though.
